If we follow your logic that "proven experience at Championship or equivalent level would be a start," then Martin, Williams and others would be serious candidates. But experience at a certain level doesn't necessarily mean much. Cooper didn't have any experience except for the U17 level, and he was our most successful manager since Monk. But let's be real, there are a bunch of managers with Championship experience who, in my book, are not worth their salt.

We need someone whose underlying stats show that his style of play creates many chances and doesn't allow many chances against. The ideal candidate will be a proponent of a high-tempo, direct style of play, and whose team presses and shoots a lot.
