Whittaker

To add something to these comments I see today that Whittaker has said he is 'devastated' to have been recalled. DEVASTATED!? How effective is he going to be then? It's obvious he doesn't want to be here; perhaps because he doesn't rate Martin who either doesn't pick him or plays him out of position when he does. Whittaker wants to be at Plymouth a division below, so what does that say about us as a club and Martin as a manager?

So when he does play where's his heart; where's his head? Not with us it seems. Whittaker achieving the goals and assists that he's been getting at Plymouth would be an undoubted asset but, after he voiced his reluctance to come back to us, I'm doubting his value to us, particularly if Martin starts messing him about which he surely will.

Despite the Watford win and the Burnley performance, I'm hoping with all my heart that Norwich don't take Wagner and sign our guy instead. We have a very decent squad who can threaten the top providing we use tactics that play to their strengths which includes being selected in positions they are familiar with. Martin is a meddler. He can't resist it. He has an image of the team he wants on the field and the way he wants them to play and dynamite won't shift it no matter how often he's proved to be wrong; that what he wants doesn't work with the players he has.

For instance, Cullen didn't score last time out and I reckon it's an even bet that he'll be benched for the next game even though he was better than Piroe. Any excuse will do for Martin and that's a damaging weakness....... for us.

I'm not going to read too much into Whittaker's comment, it's a fair comment. The last time he was with the squad he wasn't getting any playing time despite scoring a hat trick on Plymouth. Seems a sure bet Obafemi is leaving cheaply to Burnley. I would be surprised if they get more than £5 million for him now. Southampton are considering recalling Tella from the Clarets so they will potentially be in need of him. If Paterson goes that should open up room for Whittaker. If not why the hell are the recalling him? Give him a fresh start with the club and utilize him.

Been a lot of silence on the transfer front so far, the only good news is Gyokeres is wanted by several clubs. Harry Souttar may leave Stoke for West Ham. I'm afraid someone will want Manning and leave us without a proper replacement.

It appears that the Club are attempting to squeeze Plymouth into buying him to keep him. Unless Martin is forced to or intends to use him, it’s the only rational purpose of this move. Sitting him on the bench or in the stands does him a grave disservice. Not to mention it’s going to burn the bridge with Plymouth.

Stupid is as Stupid does ,,, never more true. And I wouldn’t trust Martin if I was a player.

Who knows? We might keep him. His performances, goals and assists at Plymouth clearly show he has ability albeit at a lower level. But who else at the club can boast such figures? Surely Martin has to give him his chance with us and I mean a decent chance - he shouldn't be made to scrabble with stop, start appearances like Cullen has been made to.

A proper manager would recognise obvious potential, develop it and give it a chance to blossom. But I doubt ours has the capacity or foresight to do that.
