Listened to an interesting podcast today, they are going through all of the Championship clubs and picking a key player from each side. They haven't picked one from the Swans yet, I was thinking who it could be. Obvious choice would be Obafemi or Piroe. Much depends on Fisher this season imo. There is talent up and down the pitch, it may come down to Fisher in the playoff matches. Unless we can score lots of goals and defend well so he doesn't have to. We need a keeper who can make the difference in close matches.

Who would you say is our key man this season?

I just hope Martin will stop playing Naughton in the middle of the back three. Naughton should be playing as a wing-back or even better as a full back in a 4-x-x-x formation.
Judging by today's match we may use a back 4, Darling and Cabango can do the job. There's much more goal scoring threat than we've had in years. Be bold and 3 up front, Obafemi, Piroe and Whittaker/Cullen. If Darling can pick out passes like he does in the highlight reels they don't need to stick to the patient buildup script.

As always the key (most important) man in every football team is the manager. If Martin fails to see what was wrong last season then no key player can correct that. We simply have to

  • get rid of the risky play from the back when we are under pressure
  • cut out the number of backward and sideways passes
  • start blocking crosses (we were awful at doing that last season)
  • move back our back line at least 10 yards because our centre-backs and defensive/central midfielders lack pace
  • play either 4 at the back or 3 at the back in a tighter formation (not forcing our centre-backs to play as full-backs)
  • play more direct football, which means more ball carries through the middle
  • cross and shoot much more than we did last season
  • make more professional fouls when we lose the ball and the opposition counter-attacks
  • press as a team much more than we did last season
  • play Benda instead of Fisher, or sign an excellent goalkeeper, because a goalkeeper is the second most important man in any team

We will know more on the Benda / Fisher saga with Tuesday’s match. If Benda doesn’t get any game time then he’s not under consideration.

Agree on all of these points. I'd like to see improvement on fitness. We may have to be a top scoring team to get wins.

See that Reading want Fulton and hope to get a bargain as they have a transfer embargo. In other words, they want him for free. As far as I'm concerned they can sod off!! He's a good player and I don't want him to go anyway but, if RM has made his mind up, then for fcuk's sake get some sort of fee for him. We're not a bloody charity and Reading are rivals of ours as well. Joe won't have come cheap and every penny we get can offset the cost.

Surely we can’t have any fitness complaints with a full pre-season?
In my experience the win is usually awarded to the top scoring team. Sorry @KVetch , I couldn’t resist 😊
We could all learn a thing or 2 from me, ( but not much more than that)

I think they should press the attack this season, we can play possession ball against certain teams.

I don't understand why we would let go of Fulton. We're thin, injuries happen, he has experience. Makes no sense selling him cheap to a rival. I find it hard to believe he doesn't fit into the squad.

If Allen starts regularly, he's going to naturally impose his ingrained habits and patterns on the players around him on the field. Others are going to have to play to his tempo and patterns or he'll by-pass them. Fulton comes from the same academy mold as Allen. In Allen, Fulton will find a kindred spirit. Fulton is too good a player to be left on the bench or in the stands.

Ramsey looks cooked a Juve. Not assigned a squad number. Not in the squad touring the USA.

Wages are a big issue. He'd need to take a crew cut not a hair cut. He needs to play somewhere to be of value for Wales. Is he worth it or should we focus on giving time to Congreve.

He'd play for Cardiff if he came back to Wales but, if he was fit, a mid-table Premier League club could be interested at the right price.
