Just to give posters an idea, I go into admin about three times a day, sometimes more often, to delete potential spam/bots and get rid of undesirables. Since we started, I guess I've got rid of well over a thousand such 'applicants'. As an example I have dumped 17 already today and there'll be more by tonight. The most I did in one day was over 30. For some reason, of late we've had a surge in attempts from addresses in Russia, which I had no hesitation in deleting. One individual who delights in the name of Rolandnob is a very persistent person and I must have deleted him/her several times. He/she keeps trying; I keep deleting. Doing my best to keep this a clean site for you guys.

Already deleted another 26 today with the usual complement of a half dozen or more from Russia. Seems there's been a surge lately and it brings to mind the claims of a former site, where many of us were members, who claimed they had some 3,000 posters worldwide! I saw no evidence of this whilst I was there but it now occurs to me that they were counting the total number of applicants they received. And, of course, if you don't bother to delete the 'iffy' ones, which comprise about 99% of the applications, it would be easy to achieve that number. Anyway, I've changed from Talk-Talk to Sky, active from today, so there might be some teething glitches. If I have problems I'll phone @The Blobster so he can let you know.

Just curious. How do you know they are spammers? Do they first post something and then you delete their accounts? And why on earth are Russians trying to sign to a Swans fans' site?

Some appear in the application section where it's marked if they are spammers. Others, for some reason, get past this stage and appear directly in the list of posters. I see their email addresses and delete them if I don't like the look of them. Many are bots (robots) but the huge majority get intercepted by me before they post. As for the Russians I haven't got a clue but I also delete many from eastern European countries (and worldwide for that matter) as I've asked the same question as you: why the Swans? I'd rather delete a genuine would-be poster than take a chance on allowing some mischief-maker on the forum. If they are genuine and want to post they can let me know. Mind you, you're asking the wrong person to explain things. Max is the techy man who set up the site, so he best knows how it works.

Just deleted another 10 including a RosellaFri who appeared in the list of posters on site. As soon as I see a strange name I go into admin to delete and check for any other 'strangers' whilst I'm there - I found another 9. That's 36 so far today and I'll be checking for more later.

In the time it took me to type my last post here, two more strangers appeared; kevintal and Kennethdoofe both from Russia by the way. That's 38 today and counting.......

And another 9 gone including 3 from Russia. That's 48 for the day. I'll check again later this morning.
Ronoldnob lol, but that is crazy why do they choose this forum? Is it because they are familiar with the software or something else?

How do you deal with SMART Russian bots? Any tips? Banning Russian IPs didn't do anything, because they learned how to use VPNs from European and US.
As I explained to CJ, KV, Max is the tech guy. He'll have far more answers than I can give.

Are there any new members from the UK?

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Aye and there were 24 more this morning with the inevitable Russkies. Unfortunately none of them from the UK despite the fact I have stated in open forum that all good posters are welcome here. By 'good' I mean, of course, posters who conduct themselves properly on site.

It doesn't take that long to be honest, CJ, although it does seem to be on the increase. If it becomes too time consuming then I'll ask for a little help. But I'm happy to do it for the good of the forum.

Perhaps the site should pop-up a paywall for entry if the IP address locates to suspect locations. With a sliding scale depending on the degree of undesirability. Cardiff being the highest, then Russia and so on. Free entry being granted to a true Jack answering a question about the Club ... e.g. who did Mel clock to get a red card in the FA Cup.
