Comms on Radio Wales critical of Hamer. A keeper who can't deal with crosses is no frigging use to anyone, least of all us. He cost us two points today and we now know the reason Martin is looking to sign another keeper in January. But the question has to be asked: how has Benda blotted his copybook? And I'd ask the same question about Cullen. Martin persists with Obafemi when everyone else at the club reckons that Cullen is our best striker (Piroe now excepted). I'm reading that Cullen is to go out on loan, something I'm opposed to. That said, he needs games to find his sharpness and rhythm because it looks like he'll never get a proper chance under Martin.

Perhaps the reason can be found in posts above. As much as I support RM, so far his team has utterly failed to find a way to play with intensity and cannot sustain any long periods of pressure. This means that strikers are living off occasional bits and pieces and not getting the flow of chances that brings consistent goal-scoring. Basic coaching, Russell, that I was taught over 50 years ago and it is as true today as it was then. If you want to get the best out of Cullen, have a word with Cameron Toshack who had him scoring for fun when we did the 'Unders' double against the best teams in the country.

The refereeing at this game was nothing short of disgusting.
As I've said previously there should be a panel to judge their decisions, if obviously wrong then a yellow, two yellows = a red, either miss x amount of games or relegated to refereeing in a lower division for x amount of games. maybe also applies to linesmen.
To them it's just another game, to some clubs it can mean £ millions either by promotion or relegation.

Had a sharp conversation with a friend who reckoned I was being harsh on Hamer - said that he's made some good saves for us. Perfectly true BUT shouldn't that be true of ANY keeper? I mean, shot-stopping is a basic requirement of the job; just as heading the ball, tackling and running etc are the basics of the outfield players.

What the best keepers add to shot-stopping, is control of their penalty area, taking of crosses, organisation of their defenders and consistently good distribution. Frankly Hamer has fallen short on a number of these things and today's pathetic flap at the ball certainly cost us two points and a great chance to close in on the top six.

That said, we were far off our best as a team today and that was due in no small part to the way Blackpool handled us. I warned with my first post on this thread that this would be a tough game and I was proved right. Unfortunately. We needed to play with urgency, intensity and focus but never did any of those things. MUCH more required I'm afraid.

Martin says the team lacked energy and intensity because he might have worked them too hard in training. Well we've lacked those things all season, so what was the excuse then? Don't train hard, fitness levels fall off. Train hard and you suffer a lack of energy and intensity. So what is it to be? Do other teams suffer the same problems? Getting pissed off with all the rubbish excuses that fly out because other teams seem fitter than us. Look at your training methods, Russell, because something sure as Hell isn't working!! Some stats:

POSSESSION: 60-40 SHOTS: 5-8 OT: 2-3 CORNERS: 3-4 FOULS: 13-9 GOALS: 1-1

YET AGAIN a team that's had LESS of the ball than us has managed to get off MORE shots than we have. This is not good enough and a glaring indictment of something that's not working for us. Is it our game plan? Our tactics? Or, more plainly, are our players just not good enough? Certainly I believe that our midfield is badly lacking and couldn't set up a score in a brothel. Things need to be sorted and sharpish.

I was talking to a seasider after the match about their physicality and how they seemed to get away with it. “That’s the real world, mate,” he said, “ if you don’t learn the art, you won’t survive.”
How differen from thePL where you only have to trip yourself up to get a free kick

And ... of the corners, at least 2, perhaps all 3, were after Pool scored. Which just goes to show that when we really felt the need to push forward and attack we could do so.
