Good performance but not great as I'd like to see our intensity increase by at least 15%. But it was good enough to beat a poor Cardiff side that seemed bereft of attacking ideas. Definitely not complaining for sure! :) Some stats:

POSSESSION: 74-26 SHOTS: 12-10 OT: 7-3 CORNERS: 8-5 FOULS: 5-15 GOALS: 3-0

I think we deserved at least one more goal and 4 or 5 wouldn't have flattered us. Was surprised that the shot count was so close though; it didn't feel like that. But their foul count was three times ours and that reflected what they had to resort to to keep us out. We are slowly getting there but we definitely need to inject pace into our game and a lot more intensity. WBA will be a far tougher test and if we can beat them it will be a sure sign of progress. Very interested to see how we perform against a top team.

Swans' ratings on WOL were 8 across the board with Paterson, deservedly MOM, getting a 9. Cardiffs' were all 4s and 5s prompting one of their fans to comment that the game was thoroughbreds against carthorses. Not often I agree with a Cardiff fan.......

From a cynical perspective … the result was the minimum expected for this fixture. Nothing else is ever acceptable. We are superior, ergo we win.

having said that we scored three lovely goals. And, despite Moore isolating Naughton time and again the Scum never recognized the opportunity worked to give Moore the ball, especially after the first 20 minutes when things had settled down. Piroe showed yet again given a glimpse of goal he scores.

Cardiff had a couple of chances that could have went in. Header from the corner, I think Pack tripped over Moore before his shot over the bar. We should have had a penalty in the first minute. Can we carry over any of this confidence against West Brom.

West Brom will be the acid test for us. They will be as physical as Cardiff but with a lot more football about them. If we can win this game I will start to believe that we can go on to make a realistic challenge for the top six. As a sign of progress a fighting draw wouldn't be the worst result. But, make no mistake, this will be a tough game - maybe a touch too soon for us but play at our best and we have a chance.

West Brom could be a 4 nil defeat I'm afraid. What is our record following Derby matches? Short rest as well but I don't think that will factor in much. I'd really like to see Whittaker get minutes. Doubt Martin changes it up more than one player. Probably send yhe3 same lineup out with Cabango in.

I would certainly be in favor of that. Not sure about Laird's status either. I thought he might be in trouble at one point. I don't think we could afford to lose him.

Read today that top ex-referee Keith Hackett took the officials to task after they missed a nailed on penalty (his words) when Ethan Laird was brought down early on. He exonerates referee James Linington to an extent but is really critical of his linesman. Had we scored that penalty we could well have gone on to notch a record score and I believe that we would have so poor were Cardiff. Here's the piece from WOL:

Referee James Linington will have been left fuming at his assistant after missing a 'nailed-on' Swansea City penalty in Sunday's South Wales derby win over Cardiff City, according to former Premier League referee Keith Hackett.

The Swans ran riot on a largely comfortably afternoon, earning a 3-0 win over their bitter rivals at the Swansea.com Stadium.

However, there were strong suggestions that the hosts should have had an early penalty when Ethan Laird was brought down inside the box by Curtis Nelson inside the opening three minutes.

Hackett says Linington's assistant should have spotted the incident, and says the Isle of Wight official will have been angered by his colleague's failure to act.

He told Football Insider : "That was a nailed-on penalty kick.

“On this occasion, he [Linington] needs a bit of luck. He’s in proximity but he’s got two players blocking his view.

“Instead of going left so the space can open up for him, in a way that a player would for a pass, what he’s done is, he’s almost gone static and has been caught out.

“He’s looking around two players and has no chance of making a major decision so he’s at fault.

“The fallback position has to be the assistant referee. In fairness, he looks at the assistant referee who gives him absolutely nothing.

“I would be quite brutal there. I’d say ‘I don’t want to work with that assistant anymore, he’s let me down big time’.

"The assistant has got a good view looking in, we had that camera angle.

“In defence of the referee, he parked it and got on with the game and refereed quite well for the rest of the game.”

I have to wonder if any action will be taken against that so-called assistant referee. Incompetents like him often decide the result of games because of their own limitations. That non-decision was an absolute disgrace and, in my opinion, officials with that low level of ability should be drummed out of the game.

Perhaps the Football league should employ them direct, like their players, then if they’re no good, don’t renew their contract.

ive already seen the major flaw in this:
After two seasons there wouldn’t be any officials left.
