Swan's For Sale??????????

Yes, I did a double-take too! 😲😲 But Phil Thomas, a very respected football journalist in the Sun, thinks they are. His piece about the Championship being in a "murky mess" with very few teams spending money to improve and many owners looking to sell up, included the following observation:

"Preston were nearly sold last season and could still be at some stage, while Swansea's owners have been trying to get rid almost longer than anyone can remember."

Really? This is news to me and I guess to most of us. Our owners, unfortunately, have often repeated that they remain committed to the club and, what sources I have, possess no knowledge whatsoever about them selling the club.

It would be too much to hope for that Mr Thomas knows something we don't but has anyone heard anything at all about this? Even rumour.

Let’s face it, the new owners have taken a haircut in terms of valuation and revenue. They are in a negative position and their soul benefit is the negative pass-thru on their US tax returns. For all practical purposes what value remains of their purchase is dead money. I’m sure they’d like to extract what they can, take the final loss on their tax returns to offset other gains and put the money that’s left to work somewhere where they have half a clue.

infrastructure wise the club is solid. The location sucks - not the stadium but the city (but it’s better than a great many other places). Other than train and car over the roofs of port talbot there’s no good way to get in or out. And yes the Gower is great, but it rains more than Seattle and that place is depressing, at least Swansea doesn’t have a volcano nearby unless kilvey is something we don’t know about. The academy has a solid track record of producing talent. And we’re one good season from getting into the Prem, which is the one real investable attraction. We have shown what can be accomplished when it all comes together. We don’t have a top level kit sponsor. Joma is not it. Martin’s madness failed miserably to match up to the accomplishments of Andy Pandy … from an investment point of view the club made a poor decision, took a step backwards, and the current management team are as yet unproven. At the very least, Martin has to reach the playoff finals this season, or he’s been a bust.

the owners of Scunthorpe were peddling that club for £10 million back in 2018/19. It was a shit show of an opportunity. In comparison we are or rather look golden? What would our valuation be? North of £10 but probably nowhere near what the current owners would like to get. The owner of Huddersfield some 20 years back quipped that the quickest way to turn a lot of money into a little money was to own a football club. The current owners are crying over that … who else is there that has more money than brains.

There was a rumour after the end of the season that a Brazilian millionaire offered £35 - £40 million for the Swans. Don't know how much of that was true, he was also said to want to loan half that to the club. He is part owner of Remo a Serie C Brazilian side. It spread on social media, it doesn't hold water.

It would be nice to have an owner or owners who love the club. The current owners are managing the bottom line. They claimed a £4.6 million loss last season, largely due to the loss of ticket sales. That would make the notion of selling Piroe more attractive to them. You would think they would love to sell a club that's losing money. Yet they persist to own a mid table Championship club. We can make the playoffs with Piroe, I don't know if we can win them without wingbacks. It is said no one is coming in unless they can get players out the door. How many more losses will they incur before they sell?

I'm afraid they are plotting to sell Piroe on deadline day and give the reigns to Cullen and Whittaker. Maybe our academy can produce players to help generate income.

I hope we're competing for a top 6 spot on the table come April.
