Sunderland Away - Player Ratings

Allen had a couple of poor passes but overall was very good. This really lays it all out. I like Darling, he has been what I expected from his previous highlights. He likes to get forward. I wonder what kind of changes Martin makes. I hope Morgan at least gets a seat on the bench.

Well done, CJ. My limited brainpower is working overdrive to understand it all.
Regarding Jay’s minus. Bankers have a saying “if you never had a bad debt it’s because you never took a chance”
Poor goalie has to play very well to earn a tick in the blue column 🤓

It's easy. Plus points for good, and minus points for poor actions.
Both attacking and defensive actions are equally worth.

Trying is not enough.

He can distribute the ball better than he does, collect crosses, make some saves....

Interestingly, despite being responsible for the Sunderland goal Darling was MOTM (+15 points).

Lati, Cabango, Allen, Manning, Grimes, Cooper and Cullen all excellent, Piroe worked hard but apart from the goal he scored didn't contribute with much quality up front. Fulton had an ok game but had too many possession losses (dispossessed, sloppy passes). Benda had a relatively quiet game, and apart from the goal they scored Sunderland didn't have any quality shots. Sorinola, Cundle and Ntcham came in too late and didn't make any significant impact.

Another interesting thing is that we have become a physical team.

Tackles attempted

Swansea 33 - 5 Watford

Swansea 27 - 20 Burnley

Swansea 19 - 17 Sunderland

Also, when we lose the ball we immediately commit professional fouls trying to stop opposition counter-attacks, which I like a lot.

How would these differ from regular player ratings? I would think goals and assists would be valued more in ratings and here they're only a point?

Exactly. I don't understand how on earth a player whose rating prior to scoring was 5.5 is suddenly rated 7.5 or 8 just because he/she scored. A tackle, difficult pass, interception, save, through ball etc. is as important as a goal imho.
Yes, I give them 'only' a point for the goal, but if the goal required an extraordinary skill (like excellent ball control, free-kick goal, bicycle-kick, dribble, etc.), then I give an extra point for the skill itself.
