I saw many positives compared to the Oxford game.
1. Our high pressing was pretty good.
2. We were good at getting the ball back immediately after losing it.
3. We created 6 good chances. (Yates had two 90% chances, Piroe had one, Cullen one, Paterson one, and Cooper one. We also had some shots from 18-25 yards out that were either blocked or off target.)
4. Our passing was pretty good.
5. Many youngsters got a chance to play at the Liberty in a senior game.
6. Bristol Rovers are a good and well-drilled team. I wouldn't be surprised if they are promoted next season.
Here are the negatives:
1. Individual errors at the back. (Naughton dribbles and gives the ball away just outside our box and Rovers create a good chance. Oli Cooper backpass initiates Rovers counter attack and they create a good chance. Brandon Cooper and Grimes show lack of positional awereness for Rovers' third chance in the first half. Brandon Cooper and Harry Darling show lack of positional awereness for the Rovers' first goal. Rovers' second goal was actually Brandon Cooper's own goal. Etc.)
2. Lack of pace at the back. Our centre-backs are simply too slow and when we play with a high back line they can't catch oposition speedy wingers. Four at the back would help.
3. Abdulai can't play on the left. He is right-footed and every time he is in a position to put in a cross he turns around so he can pass the ball backwards with his right foot. We need a dedicated full-back/wing-back on the left side.
4. Grimes direct forward passes lacked quality.
5. Our attackers were ineffective.

Overall, this game was an improvement on the Oxford game. We're all frustrated with the result, but let's not forget that Allen, Walsh, Ginnelly and Cabango are injured, we're short in certain positions and it was a friendly with many youngsters playing for us.
