Ronald Pereira Martins

According to WalesOnline, Ronald is on the verge of a permanent deal with the Swans. Transfer fee agreed with his parent club in Brazil. Medical tomorrow.

According to YouTube šŸ˜‚ he's got some pace and is technically gifted (a Brazilian after all). His nickname is Pato.

According to Whoscored he is not worth Ā£5. But ok, none in our squad is worth more than Ā£5.

No significant strengths and many weaknesses...he'll fit perfectly into our squad.

Let's hope the analysts at Whoscored are wrong about him.

whoscored once had finishing as a weakness for Liam Cullen (since rectified), and also had latter-era Wayne Routledge listed as a counter-attacking threat, so they can definitely be wrong

Ronald looks quick enough and skilful enough for this squad. Question is, does this mean it's back to the bench for Cullen who is mostly played out wide atm? That'd be one step forward and several lunges back. Ronald and Bolasie potentially supplying excellent crosses either for Lowe to miss the goal or Yates to miss the ball.

The logical reason to sign a pure winger is to enable a switch to a back 4 and eliminate the need for WBs. Otherwise in a 3+2, heā€™s either going to be a false 9 / #10 or play as a WB ā€¦ a folly in the making. We have 3 perfectly fine FBs in Tymon, Key and Ashby, with Abdulai, Lissah waiting to establish and then wishful thinking like Darling and Naughton. We donā€™t need another WB that canā€™t.

if he is a bonafide winger then letā€™s hope he has the speed and winger wizard moves and be used as the footballing gods intended. We have enough ā€œCullensā€ being misused as it is.

Seems to me to be a signing contrary to Williamsā€™ fantasy football style.

This could be a really good signing if we switch to a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1 or any combination of four at the back. Especially next season when Ginnelly is back. But I doubt that this is going to happen. Williams will probably continue to play his beloved 3-4-2-1 formation.

This is my presumption. We have a coach drunk with arrogance that he can coach any group of players to execute his fantasy of football instead of deriving a system that optimizes for the players on hand. A terrible hiring.

I understand that Bolasie had other options, so may have exercised one of them. Personally, I think he had a look at our team and didn't fancy staying. Pity, because I believe a fit Bolasie could have done a job for us.

On a happier note I've been reading that Blackburn are thinking of taking Jerry Yates on loan. Oh, Pleeeeaase do! You know it makes sense!!

It sounded like Bolasie was training and getting in shape with us. Trying to make a move back to Palace or a Premier League side. But I'm honestly not sure, what kind of minutes does he want? I hope Ronald can bring that kind of energy here.

We don't want to loan him we want to sell him which is concerning as we don't have many options with Lowe injured. Yates gets a lot of stick but he's scored 7 for us.

We have Josh Thomas. We have Big Myk. We have options. I'd rather loan Yates out and get his comp off our books. We know what Yates can't do. I'd much prefer to see what Myk and Josh can do .... that is if we're going to persist with Cullen out in no-man's land.

If they're taking a collection for his transportation, I'm in.

Yates was brought in for Duff to play Duff's system, so it makes sense he doesn't fit anymore. I suspect he's also got off-field issues. Consider his situation - a new player bought for a tidy sum, instantly installed as the starting #9 and undroppable despite sub-par performance... and yet he's clearly unhappy. No confidence, no spring in the step, two yards late to everything, and invisible for most of the game. Most players would be ecstatic to get as many minutes as he has. I figure there's something going on behind the scenes and I wouldn't be surprised if he does go back up North. He's a Northern lad after all. Great news for Cullen.
