Rhian Brewster - Liverpool

I'm not posting the link because it's WOL. I've seen other rumours but this is the first time I've seen reports that Swansea is actually talking to Liverpool about Rhian Brewster. 19 year old striker, what we need are goals perfect match.

Steve Cooper has managed Brewster before with England U17s.
Recent successful Premier League players Daniel James and Tammy Abraham came out of Swansea to make their mark.

If Swansea is serious about taking on another loan Borja or Ayew is likely gone. If Surridge is called back to Bournemouth there will be more minutes for Rhian. But Liverpool wants to get him to start matches. Does this also mean Cooper is staying on as manager?

Plenty of teams are interested in Rhian, Blackburn Rovers are a likely landing spot. Other European leagues are interested, Bundesliga for one. He's got a nice shot.

He's fast, strong, mobile, has flair, assists as well as scores and he's got two strong feet. What's not to like? Must confess that I've also been following the rumours on WOL but waiting to see if there's any truth in them. Hope there is.

I mentioned Liam Cullen on another thread but couldn't download the stuff I found about him. However, here's a glimpse of the lad in an 'Unders' international against Scotland. Wales are in white and Liam is #11.

This is all well and good. But, we already have top forwards - this is not our struggle. Our struggle is in controlling midfield, quality, and playing consistently at a level that we believe we can or should be able to deliver. And finally settling on a system/shape that uses our players in an optimal way - in this respect Cooper after all this time still appears to be seeking.

We've all opined to varying degrees about Cooper. Providing him with an inexperienced though talented player is not going to be the solution. He hasn't been able to organize and motivate the players we already have. We have players suited to playing Swanselona and a coach that can't train it during the week and deliver it with any quality in a match as a platform for something more sophisticated.

And Rhian would again put us in the age old dilemma ... is he really that good that he supersedes our existing talent in our own Under-23 and takes times from them that would benefit them and therefore us more directly.

I saw that one too, there's not a lot of video on Cullen but he's promising. I'd love to see him get a chance just to see what he can do. And more importantly he's signed with Swansea. Apparently there's a boxer named Liam Cullen too.

Whoever is getting Brewster on loan is getting a hell of a player. They're just highlights but he's already got a lot of them. The pace he has with the ball makes me miss James even more. Some of them he was able to find the goal with 4 opponents around him.

It's true that we already a full squad and enough forwards. I thought it might be rumours but it makes me think there is something going on behind the scenes. They may be trying to replace whoever they sell in January.

Yes, Brewster is a very promising striker, but would probably be wasted with us as we lack the midfield to provide him with opportunities, and possibly fail to meet Liverpools criterier for enhancing his game, Far better for us to concentrate on experienced midfielders............ And a new manager of course.

I had the same feelings when I was reading about him. We don't need to take on another player.

The highlight reels are tantalizing. And I'd rather he were a Swan than with Blackburn or Leeds. To me it's insight into the January strategy.

Reports that Brewster will be a done deal this week but I noted the following comment on the BBC website from one of our fans:

A bad move for him. Swansea have been poor for most of the season, despite the league position. Brewster needs to be in a side that has some idea what they're doing, which isn't us.

Yet more condemnation of Cooper. I also note that Leon said, with Surridge gone we only have one recognised centre forward in Borja. Well what about Liam Cullen? I accept that he's untried at Championship level and would be a gamble but he sure as hell knows where the net is in the 'Unders' games. It might be worth bringing him into the squad now to give him a taster and some minutes off the bench. You never know.......

He could well start against Cardiff but with them being a physical team maybe the more experienced, stronger Borja might be a better choice with Brewster coming off the bench if needed. It's not the sort of fixture to blood a new youngster imo, so a stint off the bench after he's had a look at what's going on might be advisable. Good luck to the young man whatever. Hope he's a big success for us and himself.

Given Borja and Ayew as the two starting forwards ... we have a gap on the left side. Peterson is not one of Andy Pandy's favorites although he would be up for the battle. McKay is to shit in always possible to play in such a battle. Routs and Dyer have just been bordering on rank recently and Celina is where all good moves go to die.

Brewster could start on the left side. I presume that coming out of 'Pool he is going to be super fit and as yet untarnished by our dumb down fitness regimen.
