Interesting article by Leighton James where he thinks that too quick a promotion might be a bad thing for our young team. I can see that if we did go up and the owners failed to strengthen the squad, which is very likely, our lack of experience could see the team take some savage beatings, which would destroy their confidence. Ideally, we could sit in the Championship, let the youngsters get some hard yards under their belts and then have a tilt next season when the team might be more streetwise and experienced. BUT the Championship being what it is, there'd be no guarantees that we'd get anywhere near promotion next season. There are all sorts of factors that could mitigate against this, not least Graham Potter deciding that he'd rather be at a more ambitious club.
Personally, I'm of the mindset that when the opportunity presents itself, it should be grabbed with both hands because it might never come our way again. The trouble is that should we get promoted, we would need to spend some serious money to stay there because our young team would need some quality around them to help them become attuned to the higher standard. Trouble is, many of us believe that our owners are nothing better than money grabbing shysters who would just seize the cash and pay dividends to their investors. Either that or pay telephone numbers to Mr Rooney....... probably both and that won't leave much for us.
But whatever, on balance I'd say go up if we can but you can read Leighton's article here before casting your vote.
