Looks a useful team to me - providing they get out of the blocks quickly and play like they want the points against what will arguably be one of the weakest teams in the division. If they haven't targeted 3 points against these then there's not much hope for the rest of the season.

@CroJack ... you're probably right. Not sure Sorinola will beat out Lati at RWB, since he looked for more comfortable on the left side than the right.

For all his talk about bravery, Martin is somewhat risk averse. He'll be going with his favorite ponies some too light to pull the wagon.

This would be my prefered formation and lineup. Cullen/Congreve up top with Obi and Piroe. Piroe can always drop down behind Obi and Cullen/Congreve. Strong and experienced midfield. Grimes, Fulton and Allen changing positions to confuse opposition. Without Allen, Paterson must play with Ntcham as sub. When in possession Manning and Naughton pushing up.

Bench: Fisher, Cabango, Latibeaudiere, Ntcham, Paterson, Sorinola, Cullen/Congreve.

I would start Cabango or Manning or Lati. I hope one of them can fit the LB or wing back position.

He was good enough 2 seasons ago to stuff Jesus into his back pocket against City. No walking on water that night.
Yeah, but defending with all you have and playing counter-attacking football is different than having 70 % possession, playing high and trying to catch speedy opposition wingers and strikers. He is too slow and not suited for Martin's football with three at the back. Four at the back is something else.

Opening game and I'm going for a one goal win (1-0/2-1) against newly promoted Millers who already are favourites for relegation. There are several strong sides in contention this year, so we don't want to fall behind playing catch-up and MUST win the games we are expected to. This is one of them.

I know that Neil Warnock is not everyones' cup of tea but his assessment of our chances this season would seem to gel with ours. He says:

I can't see the Swans pushing because Championship teams WORK OUT HOW TO PLAY AGAINST THEM. They have an attractive style and don't change it - but THERE ARE TIMES YOU NEED A PLAN B.

And that neatly sums us up does it not? A radical Plan B for us would have been to sign Andy Carroll. His height and strength, both in attack and defence, would be a huge change to what we usually offer but Martin is far to set in his ideas to consider something like that. Limited thinking.

PS: Swans game against Hull in September is still the same day but now a 12:30 pm start as the game will be live on Sky.
