Pre-Season Slaughter: Southampton

4-3-3 does not suit us at all. Soton are deploying their FBs very high with their wide forwards shifting inside. It's causing Bidwell all sorts of problems; Lowe not much help. Naughton dealing with it better. Cabango nowhere near ready for prime time.

Benda is a breath of fresh air

These commentators are killing me … they’re yapping on about anything but the game in front of them …. Better they STFU

We're offering nothing now and can only hope to keep the score respectable. We can't keep the ball; we can't pass the ball and our movement is shit. Where have I heard all that before?

I hope we put up a decent show at least and not allow Soton free licence to strut their stuff without getting in their faces. @Ladygargar will be there today with her daughter and, as it's her birthday today, I hope the Swans will give them, and us, something to cheer.

I shared a pre-birthday dinner last night at her place with her family and we had a delicious Chinese takeaway. There was so much of it I brought home about half a dozen cartons full of food the six of us couldn't manage to scoff! :) Easy dinner tonight then with no cooking for me. Just wait for the ping then get busy with the chopsticks! :D
Update on my dinner. Seems I have enough for two more BIG meals after tonight. There were 2 cartons of Yung Chow egg fried rice (prawn, chicken and pork), crispy beef in spicy sauce, chicken chow mein, barbeque spare ribs in sauce, beef in oyster sauce, chicken in black bean sauce and prawn crackers. I put the rest in the freezer but I couldn't manage dessert. Totally stuffed!! :) Seems that where LadyGG orders her Chinese food, a meal for two is more than enough for four and we ordered a meal for four plus extras. Glad we did cos I've got two more blowouts to look forward to and I love Chinese food.

The gulf in class was huge between the two teams and even when the Saints made seven changes second half they still totally outplayed us. Since that fateful day 3 years ago when they won the relegation battle against us, they’ve made massive steps forward and we’ve gone backwards at an alarming rate. The U.S. owners policy of non-investment and the selling of all our best players at fire sale prices every season and replacing them with cheap inferior options has caught up with us.
I’m amazed that they can find anybody who would want to come in and manage our club under the present circumstances, Eustace soon realised what was going on here and backed out of the job pronto. No money for new players, no control over player movement in and out. Our captain and key midfielder Matt Grimes the latest player being sold by our owners puppet Chairman Winter to a rival club for peanuts, and it was the last straw for Cooper, who quit with no other job to go to and a year still left on his contract.

And it looks like they may get the manager who is clever enough to make this business model creak along for another season. After which he’ll ask for financial backing and 👎

The Saints are a solid mid-table Premier League team who are managed by an excellent manager. The Swans, on the other hand, without Ayew, Grimes, Roberts, Fulton and Guehi, and without a manager, who can give them some structure, are a bottom league team. I, actually, expected a worse outcome. We were disjointed, our backline was hoofing the ball (and lost possession) at every opportunity, we passed the ball backwards instead of making forward runs with and without ball, our midfielders and strikers were lost in space. With other words, we neither had any structure nor a recognisable style of play. The players didn't know what they were doing which perfectly reflects the ability of our interim manager.

Didn't watch the game myself, but my son, who was at the stadium says we produced just one shot on target.
