Sad to say that this genius of a rugby player passed away on Sunday evening aged just 73. He was very much a part of that glorious, successful Welsh rugby team of the 70s that entertained us so much and his devastating sidestep was a joy to behold. The word 'legend' is bandied about too freely but truly he was one.

I never met Benny as he was known but two of my former clients, ex international and British Lion rugby players, Gareth Roberts and JJ Williams, spoke very highly of him. They said that, not only was he an incomparable, world class player, he was a hell of a nice guy with it being modest, unassuming and always the friendliest of people. RIP, Benny, thanks for being a part of my life and giving me memories that I will treasure forever.

Phil Bennet came on the scene for Wales after the retirement of the legend Barry John, who most considered tough to replace …. And Wales didn’t skip a beat.

Here he is talking about “The Try”:

If you don’t remember or too young to have witnessed it here is the whole sequence of play ….

Met him in the lounge at the Liberty 3 or 4 seasons back. Quite a character, and a real down to earth person,
