Paul Arriola

I hadn't realised what a great pedigree he has. He is clearly one of the very best 26-year old soccer players in the U.S.A. - a country of 330 million people! When you think about it that way it makes you understand just how amazingly competitive it is for players to even get to knock on the door of the premier league, never mind to actually play in it. It's easy to lose sight of just how amazingly talented you have to be to play for Swansea City. One of the top five or ten 26-year olds in the U.S.A. will have to fight to get a place in our first team.

Let’s see how fit he is and when he makes it to the bench. Andy Pandy in the Norwich pregame interview was distinctly non-plussed by his arrival, can’t believe I’m taking an AP position, but let’s wait and see whether he is anything more than a practice dummy.

BoBo was suppposed to be all that and then some .... what a clown that guy was. Have to say though that that lump of a defender we had under Potter was pretty useful.

Articulate and modest. If he plays as well as he speaks and presents himself we've got a good 'un. He'll need time though so be patient.

Which is a commodity we don't have in abundance. We need a player to be impactful today, not potentially impactful tomorrow. Hourihane is the prime example. Players that "need time" suck up resources that could be better spent on supporting the players getting it done today. We've added Morris and Arriola and Freeman ... Morris needs oxygen after three sprints.

Interestingly enough, on the Club's squad page, Arriola is listed among the midfielders not defenders.

I suppose it is a big ask for an American player to come into an English league and hit the ground running, I take your point on Morris ,Yankee, .although being a stocky build does appear to be carrying a little too much weight. He appears to have the pace but can't continually uphold it. Seems for a while he's going to play a type of Bony role, and be fed the ball in the box.

@Jackflash ... Byers was sent out on loan, so clearly match ready if perhaps not totally match fit, by our standards. If Arriola can't come in and hit the ground running then what was the point of the trade. Wouldn't it have been better to have retained Byers as the reserve. Arriola not hitting the ground running would make him a reserve, would it not. I guess time will tell.

Yes ,I agree Yankee, we've jumped the gun, releasing a player before evaluating his replacement.
