Paterson vs Charlton every touch

In a low key display by us I thought Paterson was reasonably involved given that he was playing out of position wide on the left touchline. He's not a FB or a WB nor a winger, so I thought he did okay without pulling up any trees. I think he would be far more use playing centrally and adding competition for a place in there. If Martin wants a wideman then why did he let Garrick go who has more flair and more pace? I just wish that Martin would start using his players in THEIR position of strength and not where he thinks they should be.

As quoted in today's Club web site ...
Having signed a new contract through to the summer of 2024 and with a full preparation schedule behind him, the attacking midfielder is hopeful things can go even better for him during the forthcoming season.

“Last season, I wasn’t really fit and I joined the team very late, but I still had a good season in my opinion," said Paterson.

I’m a lot fitter now and I’m just raring to get the season going and improve on last season.

“There were moments last season where I felt sharp and fit, but I want to do that consistently across a whole season.

“We need to find consistency throughout the season which we didn’t have last season for various reasons.”
Surely a pro with pro-support staff and the facilities of Fairwood at his disposal can get fit - meaning that under normal circumstances a player can go 90 at the level demanded. Being sharp or not sharp is one thing. Being fatigued is one thing. Not being "fit" ... I don't get. Perhaps we have a misuse of terms and a confusion between being fit and fatigued. Martin's job is to make sure that players are recovering properly post-match, employing proper nutrition, and not suffering from fatigue through squad rotation; fatigue as opposed to pains, strains and injuries. Martin does not appear to practice squad rotation ... he'll flog the favorite horses like rented mules game after game.
