Surely a pro with pro-support staff and the facilities of Fairwood at his disposal can get fit - meaning that under normal circumstances a player can go 90 at the level demanded. Being sharp or not sharp is one thing. Being fatigued is one thing. Not being "fit" ... I don't get. Perhaps we have a misuse of terms and a confusion between being fit and fatigued. Martin's job is to make sure that players are recovering properly post-match, employing proper nutrition, and not suffering from fatigue through squad rotation; fatigue as opposed to pains, strains and injuries. Martin does not appear to practice squad rotation ... he'll flog the favorite horses like rented mules game after game.Having signed a new contract through to the summer of 2024 and with a full preparation schedule behind him, the attacking midfielder is hopeful things can go even better for him during the forthcoming season.
“Last season, I wasn’t really fit and I joined the team very late, but I still had a good season in my opinion," said Paterson.
“I’m a lot fitter now and I’m just raring to get the season going and improve on last season.
“There were moments last season where I felt sharp and fit, but I want to do that consistently across a whole season.
“We need to find consistency throughout the season which we didn’t have last season for various reasons.”
