There must be SOMETHING there otherwise Wolves wouldn't just loan him out, they'd get rid. I know highlights reels show the best of a player but I did like the bits I saw and I saw ability - IF Cooper can bring more of it out. Perhaps the lad just needs games to develop but he's going to have to show that he's better than what we've got.

The trouble with cooper is he will play him anyway. Even if Jay is better this is another of Cooper's boys. What will he do when he runs out of players from his old England squad??????

It's slowly starting to shape up. Some useful additions. Some key veterans back on board. Exciting prospect to start alongside Ayew in Cullen. Core of our 3+2 back together. All we need now is for Benda to be given half a chance to show his talent and we're set to go.

Just announced on Talk Sport that we've signed Jamal Lowe on a long term contract for an undisclosed fee. Things are coming along nicely and all we need is Andre Ayew to stay and knit it all together.

PS: Now reading that the fee is £800k on a 3 year deal.

For reasons previously stated: not a good move. Bottom fishing is a strategy that has failed us in the past. If he makes the team before Garrick, Peterson and others they need to seriously evaluate their performance ... or is Lowe the next Andy Pandy boy.

Lowe is a decent player, better than Garrick for sure. Peterson clearly not fancied, proof that not all of Cooper's kids can do no wrong in his eyes.

I know what you're saying, YJ, but having to bottom fish is where we are at the moment. It would be a different story if we had owners who'd be prepared to back the team so we could buy better quality but they have shown that they've no intention whatsoever of doing so. At least Lowe can add depth and options to the squad and create competition for places. Garrick, Peterson and others know they will have to deliver if they want in to the starting lineup - and they'll have to keep delivering if they want to stay there.

I like G and P but they both have to up their games. We want, and need, players who can make a difference, not just players who occupy a position then just go through the motions to get a weekly pay cheque. If players have ability and potential then we want to see it in games and healthy competition for places is one building block in the process.

Looking at the squad now: with the addition of Naughton and Guehi we have 6 defenders. We are shy a couple of defenders, a CB for sure if we continue with 3+2, unless we are rolling up a couple from the U23 squad.

We have an abundance of midfield players, 12 in total. Based on our 3+2, that means 9 are on the bench or in the stands on match day.

We have 3 forwards. We probably need one more unless we reclassify Peterson or Routs, for example, as a forward.

The current squad is 24 strong. Are we axing some to lighten the payroll or carrying this squad through the season? The density of games would dictate we have a larger squad with quality depth, but Andy Pandy is not noted for changing the starting XI. He'd rather whip the horse 'til it drops than do that.

If Lowe cost £800k, that’s probably cleaned out the transfer war chest. For such a princely sum the owners will have done their due diligence, so it must be a bargain.
As Carlos Carvalhal would’ve said if he were still here, “ if you’re hungry and can’t afford lobster thermidor you settle for sardines on toast.”

I happened to see him on TV in a shopping mall last time I was in Portugal. His team Aves were 2:1 up on a big team, Benfica, I think with 5 minutes to go. They lost 3:2. His face was a picture!
