OTHER FOOTBALL

Use this thread to discuss things about all other teams to save having a separate thread about every one. I'll start off by saying what an absolutely horrendous game that was today between Cardiff City and Burnley. If ever I saw two early relegation candidates go head to head this was it. The so-called football they played was an absolute disgrace to the Premier League. There were times when I thought the ball had wings and I reckon air traffic control at Cardiff airport must have been on red alert for about two hours!!

Do either of these teams know what a pass is? With both of them it's just a question of getting possession then lumping the ball upfield into the opposing penalty area in the hopes of something dropping for them. It's abysmal. As it happens, the one good move in the game resulted in a well taken Cardiff goal and if they don't learn the lessons from that and the games they've played, not only will they go down but they'll do so with a record low points total, as Chris Sutton has already predicted to the outrage of the Cardiff fan base.

Losing this game sees them with just two points from 7 games and, if Newcastle hadn't missed a last gasp penalty against them earlier in the season, they'd have a grand total of ONE POINT and be sitting rock bottom of the table. As it is, they have 2 points and are bottom but one. Heady days indeed! Look, being honest, I'm shedding no tears at all. They were quick enough to give us pelters when we were relegated, so they are reaping what they sowed. But I felt I had to say something. At our best, we graced the Premier League and received plaudits for our football from all over the world. Cardiff, and teams like them are just a bad smell and insult the standard of arguably the best league in the world.

Typical Warnock play, hoof it up the park and hope to pick something up off the second ball, it may get him some success in the lower leagues but the Prem is a football league and its a recipe for relegation as its beginning to prove. The man is out of his depth in this league, and he knows it.
Warnock quote, " Just enjoy it while it lasts"

Jason Cundy reckons that Cardiff could well become the worst team in Premier League history if they carry on as they are. Pretty damning stuff but last season he called us the turds of the Premier League when we were bottom at Christmas and predicted us to go down. If we hadn't imploded in our final 6 games or so, we could have proved him wrong. But we didn't. Seems that Cundy isn't best pleased with Welsh teams as he's also had a right go at the Wales national team a couple of years ago under Chris Coleman.

Don't particularly like the big gobbed Cundy who wasn't exactly a household name as a player but he was right about us and probably about Cardiff as well. Wouldn't it be great if we shut his trap this season by getting promoted. COYS!!

Wales v Denmark tonight on Sky and S4C kick off at 19:45. I'm going for Wales by 2-1. Any other forecasts?

Bet @CroJack is feeling good after seeing Croatia beat Spain 3-2 last night. :) Pleased for you, CJ, and this makes for a hell of a game against England on Monday night!

Gutted for Wales. I'd rather see Wales playing 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with Bale up front and Dan James on the left wing.

Huddersfield move off the bottom of the Prem and up to 14th place with a 0-2 win over Wolves.
ps. Oh yes almost forgot, in doing so dropped the scum another place.

Unpredictable form by Wolves.
With 1 point from a possible 15 a real loss of form, wouldn't surprise me to see them become relegation candidates. On the other hand Huddersfield haven't lost in their last three, 2 wins and a draw, and thoroughly deserved the points at Molineux

I think both of them have what it takes to stay up. It'll be a close run thing but I think they'll survive given what I've seen of late. Probably Cardiff to go down with two from Burnley, Southampton, Palace, Fulham and Toon. Ranieri might get the talented Fulham squad firing and Benitez is a highly experienced and capable coach, so their teams might be okay.

On the 1st of January Burnley will be rock bottom. The only thing they know is to cross the ball to Vokes and Wood. Such primitive style of football got us relegated. I don't think Crystal Palace and Fulham will be relegated, they try to play some football and both have better managers than the rest of the pack.

Watched Leeds edge past Reading last night and was gutted with their winner but even more gutted when Reading missed a late penalty to deprive them of two points. :( Why does the average footballer seem as thick as shit? YET AGAIN the penalty taker hit a shot along the ground just inside the keeper's right post. The keeper guessed right and made a routine save. No surprise there for me.

Many of the keepers today are giants, are athletic with it and study the habits of likely opposing penalty takers. It's part of their homework and most clubs have stats people who help them with this. Most keepers are now capable of easily reaching either post in a dive, so a ground shot becomes no more than a guessing game. The kicker has two main options, inside either post, with a third option down the middle. So, at worst, a keeper has a 33.33% chance of guessing right and saving the kick. The odds are slightly better than that actually because the majority of kickers do target the post area.

Common sense should now come into play for the kicker. A keeper might well get over to either post to make a save but the laws of gravity dictate that when he dives, by the time he gets there, he will be ON THE GROUND. It doesn't take fcuking Einstein to work that out!! So, any penalty kick that is struck with reasonable force at a height of say 3ft 6" or more, will be out of the keeper's reach even if he has guessed correctly....... unless he has Inspector Gadget arms! For the life of me I don't understand why penalty takers persistently insist on hitting the ball low, when week after week after week we see such kicks gobbled up by the keeper. Sure, it takes practice to get a rising shot on target but these people are professional footballers whose job it is to put in this work. It's what they get paid for. I think back to Oli's dreadful penalty against Preston, which was a ground shot that was easily saved by the keeper. We edged that game 1-0 but could easily have lost a point or three in the second half as we didn't have the buffer of that second goal. Yet what did we see the next time Oli took a penalty? Yep, you got it. A ground shot inside the post. For me, even though he scored, it was a dreadful penalty and he got LUCKY because the keeper guessed wrongly on that occasion. In a penalty situation the odds are heavily in favour of the kicker but this bovine obstinacy in hitting low shots, is giving keepers the chance to make saves they should never be given. My ideal penalty kick is the type that used to be taken by Alan Shearer and in today's game by Harry Kane. No keeper has the remotest chance of saving them.

Just a quick word about Pablo Hernandez who put in a great performance last night. He played wide right first half, wide left in the second half and frequently was involved in the middle of the park as well. His subtle short passes were a joy to watch and one fabulous pass from wide left cross field into space for his right winger to run on to was something to behold. Of course, not everything he tried came off but this guy is a real talent and I could really see him fitting into our team. No chance of that though unfortunately.

Pablo is a complete football player, a modern goalscoring winger and playmaker. That's something Montero has never been and never will be. And we are asking ourselves why on earth has our football deteriorated?
