Orderly Exit

To while away the summer months, I’ve thought of another comp for @The Blobster to come second in.

All you have to do is list in date order which Swans players will be sold on.

You can choose as many players as you like.

For each selection sold you score 2 points.

For each selection who stays you lose 1 point.

Additionally you get ACCA points, depending on your date based run.

If your best sequence is:-

1. 0 Points
2. 4. Points
3. 8 Points
4. 16 Points

For instance, if you select A B C and D and AB and C were sold but D remained you score 6 - 1 = 5 base points. In date order C was sold first then A then B for 4 ACCA points, total 9. (Players sold but not selected do not count for ACCA purposes).

Cutoff date for entries 10 June.

Competition ends with closure of transfer window.

My choice will be Grimes, Roberts, Cabango.

thinking about this logically produces some interesting analysis.

The outcome for Roberts and Cabango is going to be driven by Euro performance. Cabango is likely to see less playing time, if any, over Roberts. Both are potential candidates for Prem clubs. Grimes’ age is working against him. He is not a Prem club candidate for that reason and as valuable and as versatile a player as he is for us, I don’t see him offering anything significant to a potential Prem club. Fulton is under rated. He’s capable of more than he’s delivering, but again not a Prem club candidate, age is working against him also.

None of our other younger players have played sufficiently to demonstrate their value/potential. Cullen and Whitaker are prime examples, same with Lati. Byers will return for next season but a player with dubious potential at this point. Manning and Byers are both 25; their ship has sailed.

Ayew, Freeman, John, Routs, and McKay are all out of contract. Routs may get an extension. Ayew probably not want one. The others are gone.

In summary, I choose Roberts and Cabango, and probably in that order.

All of our other players are Championship level players with ok output. Nobody outside the Championship will want them, why would they want to go anywhere else. Perhaps a club promoted from L1 would offer money for Grimes, Fulton, Cullen, Lowe. Tough to predict how that would pan out. Perhaps we could move Bennett to one of those clubs.

It depends on who will be our manager next season and it depends on our style of play.

1. I doubt Cabango will be sold. He is without doubt on the bigger clubs radar, but they will wait one more year. Also, to play in the Premier League as a centre-back you need pace, and Cabango lacks pace. If anyone comes for him it will be Burnley or one of the newly relegated clubs. It would be better for him to stay at Swansea.

2. I've been watching Grimes closely for the past two years. There are two things a modern defensive midfielder has to have, and that's pace and good positioning. Grimes lacks pace, and he is too often lost in translation when it comes to positioning. He is too often not aware what is going on behind his back. But the scouts are well aware of his weaknesses. So, no, I don't think he will be sold unless our greedy owners sell him for peanuts. Don't get me wrong, I like Grimes a lot. He has many other qualities.

3. Roberts. Most likely to be sold. It's now or never. He is an established Welsh international, his stats are excellent for a full-back, he is not injury-prone, and he is a prime example of an athlete who can run all day long.

4. I have had high hopes for Dhanda, but he has not developed to a player I wanted him to be. At this moment he is not good enough for the Championship. So, I think he will be shipped out to the lower leagues. His contract expires in 2022.

5. The same destiny expects George Byers. His contract runs out in 2022, and the manager, whoever it is, will want to save some wages and earn some money.

We have many players whose contracts run out in June 2021, which means we'll be buying, and not selling players. Ayew, Guehi, Woodman, Hourihane, Freeman, McKay, John and Routledge.

So, here is my list:

1. Connor Roberts
2. Yan Dhanda
3. George Byers
4. Grimes (unlikely)

All I hope for is a change of management before any fire sale takes place, giving the new man time to assess the squad and given time to talk to them. BUT this will be the last thing on the yanks minds. Their $$$$ one track minds could well see us struggling in the Championship next season. Current squad players probably don't have any great affinity to the club now seeing the American attitude towards us progressing.
All in all I think we're in for a disappointing season.

Much the same as I feel. The Yanks have ripped the assets from our club, now they're going for our soul. Once they've stripped us bare of any tangible value or prospects they'll toss our carcass on the market for whatever they can get. TRUST, WHERE THE FCUK ARE YOU??!!

Shit or get off the pot time for Dhanda next season. He's bulked up a tad. He's 22 now. He looks promising, has scored the odd goal and made a couple, but has a propensity to fade or fails to appear especially when the spaces are confined and the bullies abound. He's not "Invisible" because he works and tries, he's just ineffective when he should be asserting and pulling strings.

In some respect, I think Byers is the better of the two and expect Byers to assert himself or be left behind and left out.

We have a number of players that have a pedigree and schooling, but need a coach and system to flourish.

Put simply, we need players who can make a DIFFERENCE; players who can contribute consistently and not there just to fill a position.
