As a top club in the league, every opponent knows they have to raise their game, and they do and we have to battle. Every game for us is a league game. Every game for the opposition is a cup tie. And so it goes,
Quesfion: can Andy Pandy and his staff motivate and instill cup tie mentality into the squad.
quesfion: given the frequency of games would that approach lead to a mental fatigue at some point and an emotional cliff/drop-off
question: is it less risky to focus on recovery and physical dietary preparation and mental relaxation for each game to propagate freshness on a holistic level rather than amp’d up mental state
the reality is we have the squad we have. I think our depth is shallow ... at least that’s what I think AP’s assessment is ... otherwise he would rotate more than he is doing. In reality, that may not be true ... I think midfield Cooper is capable. I think Hamer is capable. I think Bennet is not as strong as Cabango. I am hoping that Routs has a couple more moments of “how the fuck did he do that” in him. I think Lowe’s absence is worse than his presence as it results in a weaker midfield and disjoint setup although I appreciate what’s being done.
Note, I am assuming in the above that Andy Pandy has ability and I’m taking a neutral position on him. Perhaps, he is doing all that he can with what he’s got. It has to be said that neither Martínez, nor Sousa, nor Rogers ran a team in this league that achieved as high a position. So, for what it’s worth, I give him shit, but in reality Andy Pandy is not BoBo nor Monk, and he is joint 2nd in the league with a game in hand. We’re watching sausage being made in front of our eyes and it’s not pretty is it?
It’s going to be exhausting watching our final 11 games. We are going to wince at every situation that we recognize and see coming a mile off and seconds or minutes early from the comfort of our forum.
In fairness to Andy Pandy, he is a dour individual, but his Botox like demeanor and apparent calmness, at this point, might be what the squad needs to go from game to game. A more hyper coach might be more draining on the players.
Just a thought,
