As
@CroJack said, I would also like Thelin or Knutsen but increasingly I am of the opinion that - aside from shooting - being willing and able to win the ball back is the single most important facet of any tactical system. Williams has Swansea doing that well.
As I am so fond of saying, to shoot is to lose possession but you must shoot to score and you must score to win, so you must lose possession to win. If you can win the ball back reliably, then you have the freedom to shoot at will instead of trying to carve out "perfect" chances which get harder to find the more you chase them.
And if you're winning the ball back all the time, then you're going to get the lion's share of possession anyway.
So my "perfect manager" list includes:
- prioritises winning the ball back, shooting a ton, pressing high and constantly
- can inspire a never-say-die attitude and instill self-belief throughout the squad
- puts players in their right positions
- will develop youngsters over taking loan players
If I was being really picky I'd add "
instructs his team to only ever take direct free kicks quickly and never shoot directly", but that's a discussion for another time.
