These postponements are getting ridiculous. Play your U23, U21, even your U18 or the grounds-man but put a fucking team on the field and play the match. May the better club and team win.
Cardiff rugby were so shorn of players they had to play a bunch of kids along with the few fit pros last week....... against Harlequins I think it was. Included in the team was the Aberavon groundsman who was drafted in. All the part-timers acquited themselves well apparently and did a good job.

@ivoralljack .... old time football. Golden rule years ago ... if you're going to a game, take a bag with a pair of boots, shin pads, and a towel .... and if you were extra fancy shampoo and a pair of clean underwear. You never know when you will be called on to play last minute.

Did this often! I'd stopped playing by then but used to pack my stuff just in case. I remember a game at Milford Haven at the start of the season. Brilliant sunny day, so my wife packed a picnic hamper full of goodies including beer and wine. We'd scoffed the lot when DA came rushing up in a panic saying a couple of the lads hadn't shown as they'd been delayed - they'd phoned the clubhouse as few people had mobiles back then. I went on expecting to be subbed when they turned up but, despite being half pissed and bloated with food, I did quite well and stayed on.

In that game, Colin Rees, broke through the middle and the CB grabbed his shirt which was so worn and thin, the whole thing came off in his hand. I'd like to say Colin went on to score but he put it over the bar. Do you remember Colin? A bloody good player who was at Leeds United under Don Revie when he was younger. He was a midfielder but he refused the offer of a new contract as there were the likes of Hunter, Bremner, Lorimer, Madely, Yorath, Bates and others ahead of him in the queue. He went on to play league football elsewhere but told me he always regretted not being patient and staying with Leeds. Lovely guy was Colin.

@ivoralljack ... do mean to say that DA was flapping! I thought he always had it in hand.

Shall never forget Colin. When I started at Ponty at the age of 15 and played in the reserves, Colin Rees was a mentor to me. He would speak quietly during breaks in the play. I remember every pearl of wisdom he passed on during a game like it was yesterday.

Were those the old West Ham colored shirts or the Royal blue ones?

I've played in both - black shorts with the blue tops. The West Ham/Villa/Burnley was the strip we took to Spain. Ivor had us training on the beach every morrning even when we'd got trollied the night before: Ivor more than any of us. Thing is, he had a famous face that people couldn't quite work out, so they assumed we were a football league club and we were swamped with requests for autographs :ROFLMAO: The look on their faces when they got them and read them was a sight to behold. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

But the strip that day was an old away kit that had been washed to within an inch of its life, which is why it was so thin! The tops were white and we had black shorts and socks. I remember that when big Wyndham Marks, an ex Aston Villa pro, used to wear the white top, it barely came down past his nipples because it had shrunk in the wash and he had to play with most of his substantial beer belly showing. :D Oh, happy days!

PS: I remember that Wyndham liked to play on the last shoulder because he was a BIG unit and no longer athletic. The closer he was to goal the better as he didn't have so far to go. Whenever he played you could always hear him bawl VERY loudly: Gimme a run. Gimme a run! Gimme a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking RUN!! Hell of a character. :)
