Incoming Free Agent?

Luke Williams has been talking up the possibility of bringing in a free agent on trial over the international break. He said it wouldn't be a striker as he feels the three guys he's got need all the available minutes to improve, which I completely agree with.

A couple of not-serious options: Andre Ayew is available, and so is Nacer Chadli, who I remember making some sniffy comments about Swansea when he was on his way out of Spurs. He'd been linked to the Swans and shot it down very quickly, ending up at West Brom. It would be funny if he finally came to Swansea after everything.

One serious option: Marvin De Lima. An ex-Bordeaux teammate of Zan, he can play left back and left wing and so could solve a couple of problems at once. He's 20 years old, so he'll be cheap and have plenty of resale value if he works out.

Over the years we've had too many 'top' players on their way down come to us for a final payday and a top-up for their pension pot. If they can't contribute in a consistent, meaningful way then leave them the fcuk where they are. We've got too many just going through the motions anyway.

WOL reports Adam Reach and Cyrus Christie have come in for try outs.

We all know what Cyrus can do but Reach is a decent shout too. Left back who can play left wing. I remember he was decent at Sheffield Wednesday.

Not sure of the welcome Christie would get after he turned us down for Hull. Reach has had a decent career but do we want other teams' cast-offs? If they're no longer good enough for Hull and WBA, why should they be good enough for us? That said we do need squad depth to give competition for places so, in that context, it would make sense. But only on short-term deals.

Not sure why we need back up in these positions since Naughton has provided excellent cover in LB and RB so far this season. He can even play Key's more advanced role blending into midfield.

Are we trying to provide competition to squeeze more juice out of Key, Tymon and Naughton or for other tactical reasons or culture / character reasons. Are these two really an uptick on what we already have. I could see Reach being an alternative to Fulton on the substitution for a knackered Franco or Cooper.

Naughton doesn't have the legs to cover one position regularly, let alone 2. If he, Key or Tymon gets injured the team has virtually no full-back cover that can last any run of games. Nathan Tjoe-A-On isn't up to the standard yet.

If just one of these guys signs, the team has reasonable cover. If both, then the squad has solid cover because Reach can play two positions in which Swansea are bare - LB and LW.

So theoretically: Christie covers Key, Naughton covers Key or Tymon, and Reach can cover Tymon or Eom. That's good depth.

Definitely only on short term deals though.

Also different players that in their normal roles permits a more solid shift to a Plan B later in the game.

I get the sense that the Club is bolstering its squad with an end game in mind - has to be a promotion drive. The departure of Watson could be for a variety of reasons - the abruptness suggests to me that the Club have taken some remedial action. The squad still has some gaps to fill. We've all commented on the #9 situation from various angles, but this is one position where we really do need to find a better than we have player and not just a shade here or there but someone distinctly better. We have plenty of options with different strengths and weaknesses at around the same level - we need a next level player.

Chris Christie would be welcomed back by the fans. I wonder what effect these rumours will have on player morale. Some players might not be pleased they are being replaced. It seems like we have the financials to spend on players which is nice, not every club can claim that. But I do worry about ending up with unhappy players. Are we signing the right players..

We're making another offer for Noel Milleskog, we tried to get him in the summer window. So we have no faith in any of our attackers ?
Noel is a goalscoring no.10 who is also a creative attacking midfielder, something we are lacking this season , I don't know where you heard we were back in for Milleskog but I hope you are right , he won't come cheap and will not be available to us till the January window as I think he's still under contract.

I'd still like Sorba Thomas. His figures were off the scale in a relegated team; he was recently MOM for Wales: he played in SEVEN different positions for Huddersfield yet still posted brilliant stats, many the best in the division. He's not expensive and, if he doesn't start, he can cover multiple positions from the bench giving Williams some great options. I'm surprised other teams haven't been in for him, so I'm wondering if there's something toxic there that's not apparent to us. Bellamy really rated him though, so he might well end up at Cardiff.

Milleskog is being reported by more than 1 source. The name sounded familiar so I had to go back and check, we were indeed scouting him in the summer. Watson leaving makes this all very interesting
