Gutless Swans v. Cardiff Hoofing Specialists

As a postscript to the above, I'm reading that Steve Cooper could be in line for the Sheffield United job along with Slavisa Jokanovic. Wilder himself, says the article, recommended Cooper. The article went on to say that Cooper could be available if Swans fail to go up but that neither he nor Jokanovic would come cheap and would cost big money. I'll drink to that - getting rid of Cooper AND being paid big money is a win win for me.

By the way, be careful what you wish for. Bournemouth who comfortably beat us 3-0 were hammered by the same score by a struggling Southampton side (would be one of our peers in the PL). Saints actually scored two more as well, both being VAR disallowed by a whisker. Seems to me we'd need a huge influx of players to survive and we all know the cheapskates won't cough up a penny preferring instead to pocket as much of the PL cash as they can without giving a toss what happens to the club.

Totally agree with the sentiment but I'd like us to play like that WITH a clinical striker.
Even the most clinical strikers miss plenty of chances Ivor. You know that. And to score from the half chances Whittaker had yesterday you'll need Sergio Aguero.

I think we need Bony or Llorente who are both excellent in the air and can score from headers. That's what we miss.

We have a striker, and his name is Whittaker. He'll score many goals for us if he plays regularly, and if we attack like we did in the second half against Cardiff.

Ivor, we had some more shots on target that were blocked, and Ayew hit the post. We were unlucky not to score, and if you ask me I'd rather have 23 shots and lose a game, than have one shot and win a game by being clinical.

We have to look at the bigger picture.
I want us to play for 90 minutes like we played against Cardiff in the second half when we totally dominated them. Every game. And if we do that, then we'll score plenty of goals.
I think Cardiff allowed us all that possession in the second half, a calculated risk putting 10 men behind the ball to defend that lead, and it worked, unable to get a clear shot on goal, a blue wall across the goal. eleven corners and nothing materialised from them not even anything on target. Maybe in this instance it was shame Hourihane went off, with almost 45minutes of action in the Cardiff box I think he may have got one.

I think we played much better and forced them to "allow us all that possession". We moved the ball much faster, we comitted bodies up front, and we started running. We were a totally different team in the second half.

By the way, we had all possession in the first half as well. 70% to Cardiff's 30%. We had 7 corner kicks in the first half to Cardiff's 0.

I know chances can be missed by anyone, CJ, even I missed them on the odd occasion! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: (Like 8 times from 10 ) By the way, I wasn't having a pop at Whitts who I thought had a decent enough game and is definitely a great future prospect. You know I agree with your comments about both Bony and Llorente but the latter is tied to a club whilst Wilf Bony is a free agent.

Of course, Bony would need to be fully match fit and Cooper would have to devise a strategy to use him properly. Whether or not he would be capable of doing that is another question but I think Bony is old enough, wise enough and experienced enough to tell Cooper exactly what he would need in terms of a tactical approach to get the best out of him.

Given his close ties and his love of the club and the city, I reckon Wilf would sweat blood for us and he would also be aware that, even if we weren't able to offer him anything long term afterwards, it would be a glorious chance to put himself in the shop window for a last hurrah in his career. If I were Bony, or his agent, I wouldn't hesitate to accept any decent offer from us. It would make so much sense for all parties.

@ivoralljack Do anyone of you have any contact within the club to tell them to sign Bony? I am pretty sure we can reach play-off places, and with Bony up front we have a chance to win the play-off final.

The challenge with Bony is his fitness. Not exactly renown for staying in shape and he his prone to ham string problems. If we signed him today, would he be ready in time for the playoffs. If he played before being fully fit and stretched out he could be done in the first game.

Bony has been without a club since Oct 2020 ... almost 6 months. How much rust is on the Hulk?
Quality is quality and instinct is instinct. Bony was never quick to begin with, so he's no pace to lose. The last thing to leave a boxer after all else has failed is his punch. With Bony it would be his strength and instinct. Granted he would need a certain level of fitness for sure but we would only need him to operate in and near the penalty area plus defensive duties from set pieces. He's been keeping himself fit, so should cope with that after a reasonable spell of training,

In terms of "value" the order is: Costa, Surridge, Bony ...
You probably mean Sturridge, and not Surridge. As far as I know Sam Surridge plays for Bournemouth, and Daniel Sturridge, a former Liverpool player is a free agent.

Here is what Daniel Sturridge said last summer:

“I do feel I have unfinished business so I would like to go back and play there (in Britain). I’m open to playing in other leagues, it’s not just the Premier League I’m going to consider, but to come back to England and give my best would be a huge option for me.
“I’m very excited, I’m hungrier than ever and I’m totally focused on the next chapter.”

“I’d like to think I’m one of the better options for teams,” he added. “I’m a free agent and I’ve played for a lot of top clubs around the world.

“I’m just ready to help a team be successful and to be a big part of their plans.
“I believe there’s a lot left in these legs. Although I’ve been around a long time, I would say that there’s miles on the clock but this vehicle has a lot left.”

A three months contract would suit both parts.

Sturridge would be the best option to hit the ground running .... although another player that's a tad fragile in the health and injury department. Certainly sounds motivated. At this point why not both Bony and Sturridge. Both on short term contracts. Both could have an impact and be capable of playing parts of games. If we are serious about challenging then we need to challenge ... and at this point it would appear we're topping out.

Seems a bit strange of Sturridge that he hasn't linked up with a club saying he is prepared to go to lower league clubs, maybe it's the lower league wages are the stumbling block.
