Hi to All,

Great to be on the forum and looking forward to what will hopefully be a successful return to the Prem at the end of next season !

A little bit about me, I'm old enough to remember Jimmy Loveridge, played against him many times in his Cwn Albion and Swansea Schoolboy days. Also Huw Lake, played a couple of seasons with him in same School teams, Gwyrosydd and Penlan.

My dad also had 3 offers to turn pro back in the day, but more money working for British Rail in those days ! ... How times change ! ... I could have been privately educated and running the country by now ! :)

Anyway, regards to All, looking forward to the new season and lots of great banter and debate here !!

Hey Borini, thanks for the welcome !

Very sunny up here in the South East where I've lived for 32 years. Hope it's good in Swansea ... thunder and lightning was often referred to as a bright Summer's day when I lived there ! Lol ! 😎

A warm welcome @Gunner Jack good to have you here. And, yes, we have some great posters, so you will have plenty of banter and good debate. It happens I know something of your dad. He was a right winger who scored for Swansea Schoolboys against West Ham at Upton Park in a 1-0 win. Yes? Swans went on to win the English Shield (Schoolboy FA Cup) that year did they not? Or am I having a 'Senior Moment'? :D

Your memory serves you well Ivoralljack !! 😁 ... his goal at Upton Park was a great highlight, and I think it was only the 2nd or 3rd time a Welsh schoolboy side had won the English Shield ! ... great to talk and get involved here, I guess we're all eagerly awaiting any transfer news, and how that might ifluence how the team will look next season ....Game On !!! 😁

Good to meet you too ! I would love to say it was down to a distinguished military career, with Hollywood movies based on my heroics ... but it's a lot simpler than that, stemming from the days when the Swans were playing in the lower divisions, most of us supported a team playing in the old First Division, Liverpool, Leeds Utd, Chelsea etc .. but my favourite players were Bob Wilson, Pat Rice, Bob McNab, Peter Storey, Frank McClintock, George Simpson, Eddie Kelly, John Radford, George Graham, Ray Kennedy (before he moved to Liverpool), and 'The King' Charlie George !! ... there's a clue in there somewhere ! 😁

We won't hold it against you , after all I worshipped Franny Lee, and sumerbee until they were ass whipped by Osgood and co and being a fickle youngster swiftly changed my allegiance ! Been supporting the Swans since 64 so its not only in the blood but through my bones now as well :cool:

Ah, Peter Osgood, what a player he was!! He was strong, very skilful and, for a centre forward, very elegant. And you mention Mike Summerbee. A friend of his called Len (they were both at Swindon together) played in the same LOW team that I did - I introduced him to the club. Now Summerbee, who appeared in the movie Escape to Victory, was a highly talented but VERY abrasive winger. I can tell you for a fact that he was one of very few forwards who were actually feared by defenders. Summerbee, not a tall individual and willowy in build, could really handle himself and even in those days, when hard-nosed defenders were allowed to boot anything that moved, they steered well clear of him such was his reputation.

Read his Wiki entry. He is described as having a fiery temperament a trait described by team mate Franny Lee, no shrinking violet himself, as retaliating first! My kind of player!! :)

I remember Mike Summerbee coming to the Vetch with Man C for a cup game.He was coming down the right wing (playing towards the double decker end) there was a loud chorus of 'Summerbee is a fairy' coming out of the shed, he trapped the ball, turned to them and started waving his arms as if conducting an orchestra, then gave them a clap and proceeded down the wing.

I happened to be up in Manchester,must have been about 1976, Man U were home to the Gunners, managed to get a ticket, and that was the day Radford and Kennedy banished them (Man U) to the second division.

Believe it or not even after all this time he will be back - just like Arnie :D He's self employed and been really busy establishing new business contacts for some time. Actually we speak regularly on the phone and he's delighted at how well the Swans are doing - not so delighted with how Arsenal are performing though!! :LOL:
