CHEATING!!

Been totally pissed off recently with all the cheating that's taking place in sport You had that British sprinter done for drug abuse which cost his relay team mates their medals. But a lot of it seems to be down to the officials/referees who are SUPPOSED to be neutral. The recent penalty that was disallowed in the Everton/Citeh game? It was as blatant an offence as you could see yet it wasn't given by the VAR official. Frank Lampard received an aplogy but what frigging use was that with Everton needing every point they can get for survival? And the motive for that decision? I know what I think!!

Then there was the 'try' that England 'scored' against Wales. There was an obvious offence in the lineout that was highlighted in post match coverage. But despite Wales' captain Dan Biggar politely asking for the TMO to look at the incident, he was REFUSED! WHY??!! The TMO is paid to review such things yet he refused to do so when his attention was drawn to the incident. Had he looked, he would have seen what the rest of the world did but he didn't look, so again I ask, WHY NOT?? What was HIS motive? As before, I know what I think.

There have been various other examples as well but by far the worst, in my opinion, was the disgusting decison awarded to Josh Taylor who was defending his world titles against Jack Catterall. I watched that fight and know how to score as some family members have been boxers, boxing referees and judges for much of their lives. They taught me from when I was a youngster less than 10 years old. This was the biggest case of daylight robbery that I have ever witnessed in boxing as Taylor was awarded a split decision when he clearly lost by a BIG margin. The only people in the hall who watched the fight that thought Taylor won was Taylor himself, his corner and two totally incompetent or corrupt judges.

The TV commentators and pundits (ex boxers) were totally gob-smacked and even the fight promoter who was ringside said he was disgusted and embarrassed by the decision. Live on air, words such as 'corrupt' and 'fix' amongst many others, were used to describe the farce that had just taken place. The BBBoC have said that they will hold an investigation but cannot reverse the result. And Paddy Power bookies said that THEY WOULD PAY OUT ALL BETS TAKEN ON CATTERALL TO WIN DESPITE THE FACT THAT OFFICIALLY HE HAD LOST!!! That will give an idea of just how terrible this decision was.

Catterall had spent years waiting and training for this fight and his opponent's battered face was evidence of his efforts to win it. Instead he was robbed of four world title belts and the riches he would have earned in future defences of them. It's nothing short of a disgrace. He fought a brilliant fight against an unbeaten world champion (Taylor is regarded rightly as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world) and got bugger all for it because of the dodgy decisions reached by two judges. Once more I ask, what were THEIR motives? I can tell you that I read hundreds of comments online from the general public and many from professional boxers and NOT ONE OF THEM AGREED WITH THE DECISION.

It's now generally agreed that it has to have been a fix. But the big question is, what is going to be done about it? What action will be taken against referees/officials involved in such things. For me, they should be prosecuted then kicked out of their jobs. And don't get me started about that cheating arsehole Michael Masi who brazenly broke the rules TWICE in full view of the world to cheat Hamilton of his 8th world title. Losing his job is not enough of a penalty and that should be the case for every CHEAT.

In my sport, Bridge, a pair of Italian pros were outed for cheating and banned for life. However this was overturned on appeal , insufficient evidence, in spite of countless experts quoting occasions. They promised never to play together again.
one of them, however, was chosen to play for Italy in the European qualifiers. All the players in the other 30 teams refused to play against him, forfeiting each match 16-0. So Italy have qualified for the finals in third place without playing a hand.

Postscript to that bent fight. Before I enlarge, Catterall the supposed 'loser' actually landed/scored OVER TWICE AS MANY PUNCHES as his opponent (official figures) and knocked him down in one round for a 10-8 score. Yet two judges still deemed he lost and one reckoned by a large margin. If he's not bent he must have been flying high with the fairies on drugs or whatever.

Anyway I read today (my caps):

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has asked the POLICE to investigate Josh Taylor's world super-lightweight win over Jack Catterall in Glasgow last month. Hoyle, Catterall's MP in Chorley, asked SCOTLAND YARD AND CABINET OFFICIALS to look into 'potential undue influence' after a controversial split decision win.

Has this ever happened before in sport? It shows just how corrupt and awful this decision was. The people involved must be brought to account to prevent this sort of skulduggery ever happening again.

And they say cheats never prosper. They do when bugger all is done to sort them out! If money is involved it constitutes fraud. A lifetime ban, heavy fine and a jail sentence would make other potential cheats think twice about it.

'History' and 'truth' and 'right' are written by the winners (or those that can pull the wool or drum the 'truth' in to 'man long enough) aren't they. Ivor, you seem to be expressing a more sceptical mind, I fear you've entered the rabbit hole, when you start looking you can't stop finding. That's been my experience. It's a BIG topic you're opening up.

Heard today that the judge who crazily scored the fight 114-111 in favour of Taylor has been downgraded by the BBBoC. All well and good but Catterall has lost his chance of winning the four belts held by Taylor and likely will never get another chance - particularly as Taylor has decided to move up to welterweight. Downgrading is NOT enough. The man should be kicked out of boxing altogether either on the grounds of complete and utter incompetence or corruption. The damage he has done to Catterall's career is irreperable. He should pay the same price.

The cheats are at it again. In my newspaper yesterday, ex football referee, Mark Halsey, who has a column to comment on dodgy decisions, said that Huddersfield were denied one DEFINITE penalty and had a strong case for a second that was also turned down.

Reading comments online, there were dozens of neutral fans who felt that Huddersfield had been cheated and many of them were from professional footballers who play for other clubs!! Jon Moss was the culprit this time. Did he have a big bet on? Did he suddenly have a brainstorm? Or momentarily forgot the rules? And what about the VAR official who ignored the more obvious of the two claims? The foul was OBVIOUS to all who saw it except him. So, I ask yet again, what could his motives possibly have been? ££££££££££££??????????? Who knows? But these idiots must be held ACCOUNTABLE for their dubious actions and severly sanctioned.

Such events have to be scrutinized. It's no longer a case of one set of eyes make a split second decision on what they saw and understood at that moment. There are now two sets of eyes: the ref and VAR. For the two to make such an obvious omission needs to be figured out, especially since VAR has a the advantage of retrospect and replay.

Note, I have excluded linesman from the equation. I no longer have any idea on what their role is. When I used to run the line, I would make my own decision on off-side, on fouls, on hand balls, on who kicked the ball out of play ... flag my decision and the ref could take it or leave it, be directed by it or ignore it. Now ... WTF do they actually do. They don't flag offside until the play is way past the point of offside. They flag out of play, but express no opinion on who kicked it out, etc. They could easily be replaced by a digital camera based "officiator", like the goal line technology, to call out of play, ball inide the corner circle and so on, players encroaching on penalty licks ... etc

Now I think I mentioned this before on thejack.army but I worked for Hawkeye on VAR and built the Championship equipment (revamped Russia world cup kit). So I'm out of date now but there's 3x seats, one for the camera operator, 1x for the 5th official and 1x for an assistant. They have commentary and 12 camera angles, plus a god damn rule book they can look through.

Edit: and they have the audio from all officials Comms obviously, which is constant chatter.

Have to post this. Ospreys drew 16-16 with top outfit from South Africa, the Stormers. But Stormers were awarded a penalty, from which they scored 3 points, that should never have been. THE REFEREE AGAIN!!!! Prior to the penalty incident Stormers were running the ball and there was a blatant forward pass that was obvious to everyone in the stadium except the referee and his cohorts running the line. This was not even remotely close. Sean Holley, ex Osprey's coach who has been in the game for years, said in commentary it was the biggest forward pass he'd ever seen. The game should have been stopped at that point and the penalty couldn't then have been awarded and the Ospreys probably would have won the game.

WHY didn't the referee who was close to the incident not blow for it? WHY didn't at least one of his linesmen draw his attention to it? WHY did the TMO not get involved? Did they all miss one of the most obvious forward passes ever? Were they all asleep at the time? Or was it something worse?

I feel really strongly about things like this. And what irks me even more is that in rugby it's considered somehow to be ungentlemanly to complain about such incidents. When it's this obvious the referee and officials MUST be given a grilling about their actions. Yet they are allowed to get away with it and, no doubt, will do it again because there have been no repercussions whatsoever. Pathetic, dishonest and disgraceful.

If you can find game highlights online take a look and make up your own mind. Totally inept or corrupt, take your pick.

Beggars belief this politeness to officials in rugby. It pervades everywhere including the media. Scrum V showed highlights of the game including that pass that was described as being 'a mile forward'. Yet three pundits and the presenter failed to mention even one word of it. Are they afraid of being accused of being nasty to the poor referee? This guy (and his team) wasn't fit for purpose and should have been named and shamed.
