Leeds

What now Marcelo?

Leeds are in trouble. First Patrick Bamford got injured a couple of days ago and will be out for four months. Then their two best players Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez picked injuries and probably won't be available for their next two games.

Leeds have a tiny first team squad of only 22 players and it's going to be interesting what's Bielsa is going to do now.

Bolton

Good news for Bolton.

Three days ago Bolton were on the brink of being put into administration and incurring points deduction over an unpaid loan.

After a tense 24 hours, the threat of administration has been avoided. Had the club slipped into the financial black hole, they would have been under a transfer embargo for two years on top of having a minimum of 12 points docked.

But after paying off the loan and other smaller club liabilities, the club will not be facing administration, nor will points be deducted and the threat of a transfer embargo has been banished.

Aston Villa

So far only two teams have conceded more than Villa in the Championship this season, and no other side in the top 12 has conceded double figures so far.

It's obvious that Villa have failed to find adequate replacements for goalkeeper Sam Johnstone who was one of the outstanding performers last season, and for centre-back John Terry who was great for them in terms of both his performances on the pitch and his influence off it.

Villa has signed goalkeeper Orjan Nyland from Ingolstadt and the Norwegian's form has been mixed so far and he was arguably at fault for a couple of their goals as they lost 4:1 at Bramall Lane.

Mile Jedinak has been James Chester's regular central defensive partner so far and it's led to a huge amount of uncertainty and an incredibly leaky backline. Jedinak has a lot of experience but it's not his ideal position and he's struggling there. He's not a true centre-half.

As for other positions, Jack Grealish's form has not been as good as last season. Per 90 minutes Grealish is down on, passes made, dribbles completed, shots taken, duels won, tackles won, interceptions made and recoveries made. One of the only key statistics he is up on this season is fouls won, which may prove that he's become more of a target for the opposition this campaign.

Despite all the shortcomings in their squad and performances so far, there are still reasons for Villa to feel positive this season. They have one of the strongest squads in the Championship and they've brought in two excellent new attacking players in Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie which should make them a real threat going forward if they can get the balance right.

Birmingham
Birmingham City have been summoned to appear before a Disciplinary Commission following their breach of the League’s rules on losses.

Before March 1 every club has to submit most recent accounts, previous year’s and estimated profit and loss account and balance sheet for current year. If in breach of Lower Loss Threshold they then must supply financial information for the next two years by March 31 and evidence of secure funding. Blues’ paperwork suggested their losses are in excess of the £13m per season allowable for the period, ie £39m.

The EFL will propose a sanction and detail its reasons in writing. Blues will have two options:

  1. to accept the Proposed Sanction within 14 days of receipt, or
  2. to reject the Proposed Sanction, in which case the matter shall be referred to the Disciplinary Commission.

It was claimed last week that Blues were going to be hit with a 12-point deduction.
