BURNLEY ON OUR TURF

Saturday will show us just how much we have improved under Sheehan (or not ) .
Burnley have the best defence in the league , but they have conceded a goal in each of their last 2 games, while going 17 games with clean sheets before that .
Let's hope that we don't show them too much respect and take the game to them . Crisper and more intelligent passing needed for this game , and let's hope that Connor Roberts has an off day against his old team .

It should be recognized that over the last 4 games, our record is the same as Leeds and Sheff Utd. Only Burnley, Coventry and Bristol are better. We can cry in our beer over Watford but on the margins we deserved a draw or a squeaky better. 7 points out of 12 with a maximum 6 at home, 3 clean sheets, and a GD of +3 is not shabby at all.

This is going to be a tough test for sure, but we are better prepared for it now than we were 4 games ago.

Pondering the current situation:

although i have barked about Darling in the past, he has matured into a solid member of our back line. He has his farts from time to time but he is a presence, with some pace and to borrow a line from Martin O’Neil, he is a “big c*** that can head the ball”. Delcroix is tidy but he’s not Darling.

Then there’s Cooper. Would love to see him in the team to bolster his claim to start for Wales, but where. At his age he shouldn’t be a replacement but the primary in a role. If it wasn’t for LOB, Cooper would be starting.

Then there’s Ginnelly, he showed more in a few minutes against Watford than Eom and Ronald had done all game. Surely with MPH gone, G-man has to start. His crosses were precise and dangerous. We have to perhaps bring him back with caution but do we ever need him.

we have improved our rate of crossing but we still demur opportunities to cross for a pass backwards too often and quality too often sucks. Progress, but frustrating still.

yellow card suspensions … i can’t keep track, but it seems the refs have been flashing the cards much too often. We have to have a number of players close to one too many.

Burnley will be a tough test of the quality of our new regime. They are an experienced team going for gold in the table and we'll have to be at our best to take anything from them. At our best we could even win but how often are we at our best? I think 3 points is beyond us this time but one would be good.

Games like these are what it's all about. Sheehan can show his guile and the team can show guts, determination and quality. What did Sheehan learn from the defeat against Watford.

I feel good about this summer if we have Melker Widell coming in. The problem is we don't know who our next manager will be and don't know what kind of shape they're going to want. We can't have a slow start on transfers
