Didn’t get to see the game. Heard the first few minutes only that were scary.

How did it look
We got a bit ragged towards the end but no great scares. Brizzle possibly deserved a draw overall but I'll take the win. Interesting comment from Martin during his interview, that was immediately picked up by the studio pundits, in that he said the players deviated somewhat from the gameplan in the second half. If that was a conscious decision by them, and it was suggested it was, then Martin is going to have a lot of talking and sorting out to do in the very near future. The obvious implication is that there is a certain amount of unrest at his methods and tactics - that some players are uncomfortable with it. Going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I kind of read it as the players couldn't physically keep up with his demands, not so much as a mutiny to his methods. But it was definitely interesting to hear him suggest it was done without his consent.

I just listened to a post match and I didn’t catch that issue. Seems to me that he’s hyped on Manning, and Cooper for that matter.

Piroe did the job again. How did Cullen do overall alongside him.

Seems to me we need to have three plans for every game. Plan B gets us through the first 15 minutes and burns off the opposition’s amp’d up energetic press. Plan A is what we do for the body of the game. Plan C sees the game out for the last 10 or so.

they don’t have to be departures from the Martin Mantra but clearly we need to be wiser and exert control in subtly different ways.

Apart from the opening minutes the first half looked very good. We were in total control. What impressed me most was our pressing. It looked very much like Liverpool's. We recovered the ball in no time. And every time Bristol tried to counter-attack we made a professional foul. It was a good football overall but attacking-wise we were still mostly impotent. Though Piröe was excellent up front and was my MOTM.

In the second half we stopped pressing. Obviously, the players are not fit enough to press for 90 minutes. Benda and our defenders started playing long balls so Bristol had more and more possession. They attacked more and were dangerous from crosses.

I think the players wanted the first win this season so much that they diverted from Martin's orders to play from the back all the time in the second half.
