Bournemouth v. Swansea

Didn’t get to watch the second half. By the stats we still owned the ball, but they hit us hard when they had it

shame but this is a hard lesson to be learned. Being cute is it enough, we need to be cute but bastards with it.

I feared this when I said we should try and protect out GD even if we lose. Poor by us and RM had better take a long hard look at his defence - and I don't want to hear any crap about the poor souls being tired. They are professionals. They are paid to train NOT to get tired; and the question to ask is, if our players get tired, why don't those of the opposing team? They all play the same number of games after all.

One thing - we need to be tougher. Our midfield has a definite soft centre that Fulton would help stiffen. Why the fcuk is he never even considered these days? I wouldn't say so much if the guy wasn't up to it. But he has shown in the past that he CAN play and to a high standard. Perhaps RM needs to lose the blinkers in his case and accept that, although Fulton isn't one of his signings, he can certainly do a job for us.

Final point. I'm getting pissed off with these incompetent/bent officials who keep giving an edge to our opponents. Don't tell me it doesn't go on because I know full well that it does. Cherries were getting a going-over and then get given a seemingly offside goal, which took all the pressure of them and gave them impetus. And what about the penalties we never seem to be given when they are obvious to everyone except the inept/corrupt dolts in charge of the game. I've said before that I have about as much respect for officials as I do for the police and you don't need to possess more than two brain cells to work out why!!

Goals 1, 2, and 4 came down our right hand side, where Bennett was ineffective each time

Manning is too gung-ho with his offensive role to be defensive minded. On goal 2, Naughton left the center to close down the breach in the right side but didn’t get there soon enough and Manning was nowhere fo be found covering in the center.

On goal 4, Manning’s delusion that he is Bobby Moore killed us. INstead of putting boot through ball and clearing the pressure, he tried to dribble in his own box and turned into their players.

on goal 3, Hamer …. With the entire game in front of him, Hamer plays a sucker pass to Grimes who panicked a tad and played a sucker pass to Naughton and it all went to shit from there. What was Hamer thinking.

The worst part is that B demonstrate a master plan to make us look like idiots for the rest of the league to use.

I'm hurt that we lost 4-0, I really am. I don't think the guys deserved that. I think these guys (Bournemouth) had seven weeks of preparation together before the season and we haven't had that fortune
enough already. This ship has sailed. STFU with the preseason preparation. You’re two international breaks and umpteen games into the season. If it’s not coming together by now it’s not going to so adapt to what you have. Play the better keeper not the weaker keeper. Put some balls in midfield in Fulton. Put some youth and quality into the core of defense in Cabango and Cooper. Stop trying to be a clever fucker in playing a round peg in a square hole in Manning … especially when you have two international quality CBs in Cabango and Cooper on the bench and in the stands.

It all works against the lesser wanna be clubs in the league and then it goes to total shit when faced with a top club like a Bournemouth or Fulham that has all the tools to exploit these vulnerabilities. An aging Naughton as a CCB (where he’s never previously played) is bordering on the idiotic, especially when Bennett and Manning go on offensive walkabout, fail to read the game properly, and are either too slow or too lazy to be where they need to be to avoid the inevitable oh shit moments.

I'm still smarting over that drubbing which shows that we are nothing like the finished article. Our recent games and the first 26 minutes of this one showed that we flattered to deceive. Pointless rehashing what happened as we all know but the questions to be asked are WHY???????????

Unfortunately there are a number of reasons but just for starters I will suggest that we are a bunch of snowflakes who crumble when pressure is applied. This is why I totally fail to understand why Martin ignores Fulton who brings a measure of steel to our midfield which so obviously lacks any. The stats give a slight clue:

POSSESSION: 60-40 SHOTS: 16-7 OT: 7-4 CORNERS: 7-2 FOULS: 16-6 GOALS: 4-0

However, what worries me is the fact that we outpassed them 519-320 yet, despite that, they had 28 touches in our box compared to our 8 touches in theirs.
That is a damning indictment of how utterly ineffectual our possession was in this game. With 40% possession, Bournemouth had over twice as many shots at goal and over three times as many penalty area touches as we did. WHAT IS THE POINT OF ALL THAT POSSESSION, ALL THOSE PASSES IF WE FAIL TO CONVERT EVEN INTO CHANCES LET ALONE GOALS!! Are we passing just for the sake of it? Are we being allowed to strut our stuff where it doesn't matter?

Look at the foul count (16-6). Bournemouth were quite happy to stick the boot in when it mattered yet we conceded FOUR goals and only fouled SIX times in the entire game! Where was the pride? Where was the aggression? Where was the bit of 'nasty' that every team needs? Weaving pretty patterns in areas of the pitch that hold no danger whatsoever to our opponents does NOT WIN GAMES and it's about time that Russell Martin and his coaches realise this and start aiming for more end product. And he can start this process by selecting players in their strongest, most familiar positions and dispense with his square pegs in round holes policy.
