He's been with our youth program for a few years. It would be amazing if he became our starting striker one day. Already have the chants ready Come on Geoffrey Bony

Shame we didn't go in again for Wilf. Injury free I'm convinced he'd be awesome at this level for a season or two. Swan song with us would be nice, eh?

Used this thread to save making another one. Yes, Wilf Bony is back; he's back in Holland on a short term contract until the end of the season. I have to ask: given our screaming need for a striker, why on earth couldn't we have done the same? It wouldn't have cost a fortune. The man is desperate to play even if only to get himself in the shop window to try and earn one last decent contract.

The guy is a quality player. Just where does Russell Martin think he's going to get his equal? Okay, I understand he hasn't played for a while, needs to find fitness really quickly but his new coach reckons he's fairly fit anyway having been training regularly with Newport. I also understand that he might not gel with Martin's vision of how we play. But he was a TOP CLASS striker. That instinct never goes away.

Bony would be an incredible Plan B if we were chasing a game and needed to go long. His hold-up play is superb and he's always had the skill to play others in. We've had well over 100 corners this season and we haven't scored a single goal from any of them. Wilf is strong in the air and, even if he doesn't score, he's going to attract defenders like bees to a honeypot creating confusion and space for others to score. Also, his aerial ability would help our defence from set pieces.

So he doesn't have pace. Well he never did have pace but it didn't stop him being a goal scoring machine at his best, at a level which has far more pace than the Championship. Furthermore, our team doesn't have pace anyway, which is one of our biggest failings. He'd have all the time in the world to operate given the pace we play at.

One of my criticisms of Russell Martin is that he seems very blinkered. Yet, when his ideas are challenged, he's often been found wrong. A case in point is Jay Fulton who's hardly had a look in. But when Fulton has played, Martin has praised his efforts. So why has he been used so sparingly?

Too late now to get Wilf but I suggest the club keep a close watch on how he performs at his new club because I'm sure the player would come to us in a heartbeat if we wanted him. He loves the club, he loves the city and has close family ties here. Add his ability to that and it's win win.

Bottom line is Piroe is a #9 but not a target man in the classic sense. He's not somebody you ping the ball at from the back and expect him to hold it come what may or lay it off pristinely one touch. Bony can receive a ball, hold it, have a cup of tea and then release it, all while keeping two CBs occupied. Which would, at the very least, given us another option, permitting us to clear the ball quickly and by-pass midfield, which is where we get stuck right now. And defensively as the first man on a corner he's a stone wall.
