Penalty showed that given a sliver of a make believe chance, the ref will award a Penalty against us.

Fulton had two chances in this Game, his move at the end of the first half, and his deflection off the grimes shot in the second

Welcome 3 points. The comms didn't have too much criticism today other than accusing us of being sloppy far too often. And that's it in a nutshell I suppose. We ARE a sloppy team and that's when opposing teams capitalise and punish us. What Martin can do about it is beyond me. Obviously he doesn't train them to be that way, so I guess it's down to the lack of quality in his players. However, he could punish the culprits by taking them off and being more liberal with his subs. Eventually they'll realise that repeated errors will result in the hook and it's then up to the subs to make an impression to stay in the team. Mind you, how bad is Piroe going to have to be before Cullen/Congreve get games?

I think Trundle was frustrated up until the goal. It's a slow start to the season and I hope they start playing better. Tough matches ahead, Milwall, Luton, Middleborough, Stoke.

Trundle was not frustrated with our play in the first half. It's the second half we became sloppy.

Ironic that for all Martin's religious zeal for the possession/passing game we've scored one goal from a long shot and one from a breakaway!
It's not forbidden to score from long shots and counter-attacks when you play possession/passing football :)

Of course not but for our ONLY goals scored in three league games to be a long shot and a counter attack ..... That's 270 minutes of possession football without a goal from Martin's much vaunted "wear 'em down" passing. What I liked today is the way we mixed it up with a few through balls and long balls in the first half. Maybe Martin is finally starting to modify the fanaticism and become more pragmatic after disappointments of last Saturday and mid-week.

To try to gain a perspective on what we saw today …. We saw a system shift, from 3+2 to 442, 4231, 4411 … 4-whatever, but Martin tried a system customarily played with wingers, without wingers. Naughton shifted to LB. Lati to RB. The “wingers” were Manning and Sorinola; neither of whom would ever be confused with wingers.

given all of that, I think the players adjusted fairly well and did as well as could be expected. Luckily we played Blackpool and not a top team or it could have gone ugly. Piroe is a shadow of what he was this time last season. Obafemi did a lovely job beating the last defender on the break away for our goal, and ntcham dug the pass out of his feet to finish. Amen.

we had opportunities to score 3 additional goals: Fulton x2 and Cabango’s header from the corner in the first half - anywhere on target and it would have been a goal.

martin has now created a problem / challenge / dilemma for himself. Does he stick or twist against Millwall - I.e. persevere with this new setup, or revert back to 3+2 with Naughton as CCB. It’s a shame Garrick has gone on loan, he would have been the perfect RW today.

When o’ when is Cullen going to start.

Mate, I think you are wrong here. Against Rotherham and Blackpool we created enough chances to score 7 goals. That's players, not Martin.

Obafemi alone should've scored three goals. One at Rotherham from 3 yards out, second one a volley inside 6 yards box and third from 18 yards out yesterday. The last one Michu would've scored easily. Then we have Paterson shot that Rotherham keeper miraculously saved, Grimes deflected shot miraculously saved yesterday, Wood and Cabango' headers that missed the target, three of four Piroes chances he normally scores from etc.
Yes, Blackburn game was frustrating but in the other two games we created much more than the opposition.

When I look at the data 270 minutes of Martin's foitball have produces approx. 8 expected goals, I think it's most in the entire league.

I watch extended highlights from all Championship games and I know how many chances other teams have created so far. Trust me, in terms of expected goals not much.

Apart from that dive (penalty), they had one good chance Fisher saved (and by the way Lati would've cleared it had Fisher not saved it) another from a tight 30 degrees angle Fisher easily saved, and a couple of blocked shots.

We could also say that the things could and should have gone really ugly for Blackpool had we scored from all our chances.
