Radio comms saying it was very soft and probably shouldn't have been given. Another corrupt decision against us????

I have missed all but the last 10 of the second half. What happened after 3-0. Why did we bottle it,
Pathetic. Gutless. Total lack of character in the team as I've said often before. What with this and Reading there's not a team in the division who'll fail to recognise what a complete bunch of flakes we are. They'll all fancy their chances even when they go three or four down. Keep playing will be the message because they'll collapse at some stage.

I'll be interested to see how Martin defends this further disgusting capitulation. His players are a bunch of gutless shells who didn't have the bottle to dish back the physicality they were getting. Snowflakes doesn't begin to describe them. Are they training against Swansea Ladies? Perhaps not, they'd be too rough for them.

As I posted at the top of the thread …. The game was a pointless exercise, reaffirming what we’ve known, recently witnessed, and the league table confirms … a squad that flatters to deceive and fails to play with character, purpose and quality when it really matters. We could just as easily played our own younger players instead of loaners to see what we have.

"We were brilliant for 50-55 minutes," so said Russell Martin....... AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! I'm totally pissed off hearing him say this over and over and over. Well, Russell, how about a game where you can say we were brilliant for 90 minutes? Some stats, if you can bear them:

POSSESSION: 48-52 SHOTS: 5-24 OT: 3-11 CORNERS: 4-7 FOULS: 10-13 GOALS: 3-3

How disheartening is it for our strikers who score 3 or 4 goals only to see us ship the same at the other end? I want to know how a 6ft 5" striker is allowed to rise unchallenged in the box to score. Okay, I get that he can't be outjumped by smaller defenders but they sure as hell can be physical and barge him in the air with their own jump to ensure he doesn't make clean contact. He bullied us, we allowed it and that is a disgrace. Where's the pride? Where's the attitude? Where's the character? WHERE WAS THE BLOCKING to stop him getting near the ball?

I have to ask, does Russell Martin, or any of his coaches, have the foggiest idea of teaching our defenders to defend? It seems not because our defence resembles a colander whenever teams attack them. They are unbelievably BAD and nothing is being done about it.

As for the stats, we were so "brilliant" we were outshot by 24 strikes to 5 and Muff had ELEVEN shots on taget. I utterly fail to see the "brilliance" that Martin claims. Yes, we shocked them with a quick start and improved on it with some good play but as soon as Muff refused to be flat-tracked bullied and fought back, we collapsed like a pricked balloon....... as we usually do. Character? I don't see very much in this team at all. As SAF and many other successful managers have said, having talent is important but the FIRST thing they look for in a player is character/attitude. It seems to me that it's the last thing we look for.

What this defensive display speaks to is that the Cobango - Naughton - XXXXX where XXXXX is not that solid a defender doesn't work. We'd like to think it does, but in practice under pressure not so much.

This immediately suggests, or should, that Brad Cooper be given a look in Naughton's role and we find somebody else at LCB - unless Lati shows more, he's not the solution.

Naughton can then move back to his more accustomed role of RB or RWB.

Or we shift to 4 at the back with Cobango and Cooper flanked by Naughton and somebody ... perhaps Bidwell could come back or Ogbeta shows up.

We seem to have a decent forward track. Obafemi and Piroe can open up defensives given some support.

We need to figure out what we can do with Oli Cooper, Cullen, Whitaker, Dan Williams, et al. And FFS, please put Benda back in goal.

The likes of Manning and Lati could hardly get a game under Cooper. Yet Martin loves these guys. Defensively Cooper had at one point the tightest defense in the league. Martin hasn't come close.

Bournemouth created enough clear-cut chances to beat us 6:3. We didn't deserve a draw and one point, but it was an entertaining game, which is much better than the boring stuff we have played too many times this season.

As long as we press high and recover the ball quickly we look good, but when we stopp doing that...well, you know what happens.

The good news is we have improved in the final third, and we have scored plenty of goals lately. We have scored 19 goals in our last 9 games (unbeaten run), which is 2.1 goals per game, and conceded 12, which is 1.33 goals per game. At this rate we would have scored 93, and conceded 59 goals in 44 games with goal difference of +34. Also, we have earned 17 points in the last 9 games (unbeaten run), which is 83 points over the course of 44 games. There have been some disappointing results lately (especially Barnsley, Reading and Bournemouth), but even with these results and at this rate we would be in second place now, 4 points behind Fulham in first and 4 points clear of Bournemouth in third.

Yes, we have definitely improved our rate of scoring but it's been gained at the expense of conceding goals at an unholy rate at the other end. Providing we can keep hold of Piroe and Oba I'm reasonably confident for next season PROVIDING Martin tightens up that leaky defence big time. And it doesn't start and end with the defenders - our midfield have to work a whole lot harder to give them protection and they have to stop losing the ball in areas that let opponents attack us from an advantageous position. Grimes is a case in point.

This is our squad for next season as it currently stands:

Notice, no Hamer. And there are quite a few others: Oli Cooper, Dan Williams not listed.

Contracts that terminate in June: Smith, Dhanda, Hamer ... then Christie, Wolf. Perhaps the last two could be acquired.

I prefer Prem football. We need to get there. It's an economic imperative.

In a 46 game season, you have to grind out results. Teams that show up whenever they feel like it are middle of the table clubs that deteriorate over time to become relegated. Teams that get promoted win matches: 1-0, 5-0, who cares. Sometimes it can be pretty, sometimes it's ugly, but it's a win. There are no points for style.

We are not a winning team. We are a weak team that other clubs think they can put one over on. We spring to 4-0, 3-0 leads because we catch the other team in a state of complacency or a state in which they think they are better and therefore don't apply themselves or an exposed state caused by a tactical setup mistake. The moment they wake up and start applying themselves or sort out their tactical oh shit, we capitulate.

At a time in the season when we needed to bear down we capitulated with a sequence of 4 draws. We pissed away superior positions in games, games we should have won, wins that would today have put us in a challenging position for the play-offs. It's a not a technical deficiency. It's a deficiency in leadership and character. Teams with leadership and character wouldn't have capitulated. They would have closed ranks. They would have "kicked the shit" out of the opposition the moment there was a realization that things were coming undone. Orders would have been barked out from the touchline. But ... nothing. We were left hanging on by the skin of our teeth begging for a final whistle.

There is nothing entertaining about seeing a commanding lead evaporate from capitulation. There is nothing entertaining about going from 3-0 to 3-3 and the lingering depression from that last gasp of exasperation and relief when the final whistle goes and utter humiliation has been averted ... at home. Forgive me, but we really need to get our fucking shit together or next season will be yet another long on promise, and full of blarney and false praise on post match interviews, and way short on points. The last 4 matches are not acceptable and not in the least bit entertaining. Instead of seizing the moment, we let it slip through our fingers, how lame is that!

At least Sousa was undone at the end of his season at home against Doncaster on goal difference and a goal disallowed for hand ball .... he didn't have a real center forward all season and he had that back stabbing bastard in his squad. What's Martin's excuse. What could Sousa have accomplished with Piroe!?!
