I enjoyed the read and somewhere in the midst of all the opinions lies the truth. Personally I will be gutted if Duff dismantles our footballing DNA. It might not have been as successful as we would have liked in recent times but it's still there, lurking, waiting for the right manager to bring it out.
Posters will know that I favoured (and still do) Cameron Toshack to be that man but I'm happy to give manager Duff his chance to show what his methods can do. My big fear is that, should he fail, we might forever have lost the tradition of passing football so well established by Martinez, Rodgers, Laudrup and briefly with Potter.
That style of football is what we became known for and made us just that little bit different from the rest. If we abandon it we'll just fall back into the pack who are all playing the same type of football with most of them doing it better than us because we have rarely played that way.
Michael Duff should bust a gut to ensure that we retain that DNA but fine tune it so that we do it better with more intensity, more pressing, more pace and more fitness. A solid and tested Plan B should also be put in place for those occasions when our game plan isn't working. It's a tall order but that's what he gets paid to do. If he can't then he shouldn't be our coach.
