JOHN TERRY??

Heard on Talksport this morning that John Terry has left Aston Villa and that bookies have suspended betting on him joining us!!! Yet to be officially announced but this is looking like a done deal. Not sure about this. JT was a great player but he was also a defender who tend to make defensive managers eg Allardyce, Dyche, Pulis and others even Monk though I hate to use his name here. JT also would not come cheap, so I wonder if our owners have finally put their hand in their pockets?

Posters might think I'm daft but I would still prefer young Toshack and I'm really disappointed for him. Has he upset the club in some way? Or maybe even his dad who doesn't suffer fools gladly and is known to speak his mind. At least you know where you stand with such people and I prefer it that way myself. Who knows?

Let's see what further news the day brings.

Top players can either become excellent managers or duds. Lampard did an excellent job at Chelsea given his constraints at the time; Gerard similarly at Rangers. Is JT in the same mold. He’s certainly going to walk in with gravitas, which you can’t say about Useless or CT for that matter.

I still think CT would be the best fit. If it’s about attracting talent to the Club and connections then JT probably has the advantage. It would be a vote of confidence in the Club and the squad that JT would leave Villa and join us. He’s not coming to fail or tread water. He will be demanding.

Perhaps all that talk about Useless and the crazy odds were media hype and bookies being fed a line of shit.

If JT is under consideration then he’s been to the Liberty and Fairwood. He’s not somebody who can sneak in and sneak out unnoticed.

JT is quoted as wanting to now spend some time with his family and then move into management. Could be blarney, but not at all consistent with our situation.

"My immediate plan is to spend some quality time with my family and, thereafter, hopefully take up some invitations to visit clubs and managers around Europe to develop my aim and objective of becoming a manager."
does he consider Wales somewhere in Europe.

This has to be pundits having a bit of fun. Wouldn't be a bad signing. I wonder if they hand it over to Tate? I would say unlikely except for the fact they could get him cheaply.

Sky bet …

  • John Terry - 1/10
  • Jody Morris - 6/1
  • Cameron Toshack, John Eustace - 12/1
  • Alan Tate - 16/1
WOL quote without saying which bookies:

Cameron Toshack 5/4

John Terry 4/1

Michael Flynn 5/1

Alan Tate 12/1

I mentioned Flynn as a dark horse some time ago. He likes his team to play decent football and hasn't committed to Newport for next season. It's all up in the air at the moment. I can't see Terry here as his wage demands would probably prelcude his appointment - and he would also expect a big transfer kitty. I still want Tosh, although surprisingly I have noted some opposition to him online. They obviously have no idea of his success with the 'Unders'. That said, Gary Richards played a big part in that and should be part of the deal if it happens.

Good to see CT's odds closing. There is a time crunch in play too ... the longer this goes the stronger CT's claim to the job becomes. And as you say @ivoralljack, Gary Richards should be added to the staff as well since we're a few people short if Andy Pandy's staff left with him.

But, unlike Frank, Terry has a track record of playing at the highest level, winning leagues and cups, and coaching a club through promotion out of the Championship and sticking in the Prem. He's been there, done all that, and has the T-shirts.

Terry can be a bit of a prick apparently .... we need a good prick.
