Key Player
Tonight we witnessed a historic victory by Liverpool. A come back of all comebacks with two of their top forwards unable to play. Barca were defeated by brilliant goals, performance beyond their years by young players and, not to diminish the contributions for all of the other players, performances by Fabinho and Mane that were controlling for 90 minutes. In fact, if not for a lack of finishing in the first leg and some majesty and magic by Messi the defeat in aggregate could have been staggering.
One other thing we witnessed tonight ... in the final minutes of the match, when one goal would yet have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and with Barca camped around the 'Pool box, Messi was walking. Not the level of engagement, desire, and leadership I expect from a player of his stature. Instead of digging deep, hunting and seeking the ball to try to make a difference, for all practical purposes he capitulated.
We have been to Anfield and we have won, on multiple occasions. Barca have not, they were mullered. We can take that into next season.
