As a lay supporter, not too clever on the finer strategic points, I had an enjoyable match.
We showed a lot of spirit and tenacity.
A number of our attempted through balls were intercepted. On other days they would have worked.
Ayew's overhead shot - his best option was to play for a penalty, which he's good at. Perhaps he'd worked out that the ref wouldn't have given it!
Why do we persist with these lob wedge throw ins when our man is surrounded by two big defenders?
It's amazing that we are still in touch with the play offs with all the bad results we've been having.

Didn't see the game but have read many reports that we played a reasonably decent game although WBA controlled most of the possession. We don't seem to get so much of the basics right though. When we engineer good shooting chances, the technique is usually akin to something you'd see in a schoolboy game and don't get me started on our delivery of a set-piece dead ball.....:mad: Pathetic doesn't begin to describe it coming as it does from players who earn a big living from the game. Learn or hone your basic skills, boyos, because they are sadly lacking!! Some stats:

POSSESSION: 35-65 SHOTS: 9-10 OT: 2-1 CORNERS: 3-4 FOULS: 9-18 GOALS: BUGGER ALL

The foul count is interesting as they committed twice as many as we did - usually an indication to me that not being able to keep us out using fair means, they resort to giving away fouls. Not that we ever benefit much from getting them because, even when in a good position, we have no one who can deliver a ball of any quality. As for doing something creative from free kicks, or set pieces, we have neither the ability nor the imagination. But, as @Behindthegoal rightly says, amazingly we are still in touch and whilst there's life there's hope. :)

Many of our through balls are telegraphed and simple to defend against.
The reason for this is the tempo of play. Take just a second or two longer and it gives the defenders time to read the ball. Play the ball quicker and gaps open up. Only problem is that accuracy and technique suffers when you do this, which is the difference between quality players and the ones we have.

Our players all take a second too long to spot a pass ... Some 4 or 5 seconds too long.
