Vorm and Vertonghen

Both are now free agents leaving Spurs today. Vorm is now 36. Vertonghen is 33.

I think it's fair to say, having seen Mulder in action again, that we tolerated Woody's baptism into senior football and Woody got the better end of the deal. Nordfeldt and Mulder both had their weaknesses, but both were on balance better keepers than the kid in many respects: experience, size, athleticism, ball at feet (composure and ability), presence in the box, technical ability as a shot stopper. The last point being a tougher argument but I think the senior keepers carried the day there too. No doubt, somebody will produce numbers that will support or undercut the proposition.

Wherever we start next season we need to add experience and ability back into the keeper position. I don't want to see Woody back, preferring to give our own talent - Benda - a chance to win his spurs, or backup Mulder or somebody else. Which brings me to Vorm ... could he hold a #1 slot with us. For the right price, he would certainly be a more than competent and capable backup.

Now Vertonghen ... we kept Monk around despite the fact that he was way over his head in the Prem ... who can forget that Rogers preferred a 19 year old called Caulker, and Laudrup's disgust with the 5-0 drubbing at Anfield the week before the League Cup final that led him to play Ki at center half in the final. Could Vertonghen deliver any value ... he has 118 senior caps for Belgium ... as a senior player / mentor alongside the likes of Rodon and Cabango ... or as a coach. I'm presuming that we start next season with none of the loan players we currently have.

I've been mulling Andy Pandy's stumbling into 3+2 format on the back of injuries and suspensions. Does this gloss over the 9/10ths of a season of dross and ineptitude? Could Rangel return as a coach sooner than later. In a similar vein, could Vertonghen or somebody like him or Rangel, do a better job. In the event that we are promoted, would we trust Andy Pandy to manage at that level.

If Cooper manages promotion this year I won't say anything negative about him until next transfer window.

I would be fine with either, Vertonghen is a good player. Do you really want to go with them over the likes of young players like Wilmot and Cabango though? Birch seems to favor finding young unproven players. Like the National Lottery hoping to hit on one of them. I hope we're scouting other leagues.

Wilmot is not our player; he belongs to Watford. Has VdH been offered a new contract for next season?

I wouldn't favor Vertonghen over Cabango or Roden, or other developing players. He would need to earn his place and his playing time; but as a mentor alongside them in training or on the field he could be valuable.

No Van der Hoorn hasn't as far as I know. I wonder of he plans to go back to the Netherlands. If we grt promoted it would be a shame not to award him a new contract. I have seen Birch is trying to make deals for Brewster and Woodman next season
A lot of competition for Brewster. Liverpool need to decide what to do with him.

Bond the goal keeper from West Brom is another Swansea target.

If we get promoted I want Lobsters. A Siggurdson or better.

If we don't it's another year of loanees.
