Just feed Hector regularly and those freezers will soon need filling !
Feed Hector regularly? If I fed him any more the git would be the size of a bus!! :) I'm not looking forward to his next visit to the vet because she's really going to have a go at me about his weight. Thing is he's NOT fat; just brawny and solid.

He caught a seagull this evening on the lawn. Never thought he could move so fast: he was like lightning. I was amazed. I called him off and the seagull, a bit of a Goliath thing, limped away flapping his wings but it couldn't fly. I tried to catch it but it scuttled away so I left it alone not to distress it. I went out several times to check on it but it was just sitting there. Just as I was going to call the RSPCA I decided to look again and, thank goodness, it was gone. I hate to see animals suffer and the thought of this bird helplessly sitting there waiting for a cat to find him was really getting to me.

Had he still been there I'd have left Hector in the garden to keep the local cats away until the RSPCA showed up. He wouldn't have touched the bird again because I'd warned him off and he was very sheepish about the whole thing. But I couldn't blame him because it's in his nature - particularly retrieving birds. He's a good dog though and very obedient. If he knows I don't like him doing something, he doesn't do it. Usually. Glad the seagull was okay though. :)

Ha, ha. :D That did come to mind but this one had a lot more grey in his colouring and was a much bigger bird. Perhaps his size meant he was a lot less nimble trying to take off from the lawn before Hector got to him. Whatever, it was awful seeing him trying to fly but only able to scuttle along the ground when I went to help. Can't tell you how relieved I was to find he'd gone when I went out to check on him later. Perhaps he'd just been shocked by the attack. Saw some stuff he'd regurgitated on the path - a big worm, two halves of a snail including the shell, some bread that I'd thrown out to feed the birds and some other indescribable stuff. Ugh!! Very pleased he recovered.

On another note, Hector's birthday today. He's nine. :)

Just to let you know I am being transferred to morriston hospital in the next hour.
Let me know if they keep you in. It's an easy visit for me there. I'll bring my own seagull !! ;) And good luck with the angiogram.

Just popped to the shop for some ciggies and took a quick look at the reduced shelf. Got the following, which was not much but worth having for the 60 seconds it took me to grab them.

Irresistible Pesto, spinach and pine nut pasta. (Having for lunch with some of my bargain king prawns)
2 x Cartons of Welsh faggots and peas in onion gravy.
Bag of roasting sweet potatoes.

Usual retail price was £9.35. I paid £2.15 saving £7.20 for a minute's work. Always worth checking the reduced goods in store.

Just watched on BBC News a survey on prices in the smaller outlets of the major supermarkets, ie - Tesco Express, prices for the same purchases are some 22% more expensive. one item that stood out to me was that the price of a SINGLE BANANA being 14p more expensive than the parent store.

In Mumbles there used to be Castle News, a typical paper shop with a sideline in groceries etc. The go-to place in the evening when you were short of a pint of milk or whatever. More expensive than the big stores, but convenient.
Within 3 months of Tesco opening opposite it was gone, dead except for his paper round.
Tesco prices are a bit more than the main store, but, hey, it's convenient.
It's getting harder and harder to support the local independent trader.

I was there Saturday and I see NatWest bank has gone . I also had the worst cup of coffee ever in bracelet bay. It was an Americano and was overly strong and extremely bitter. Two coffee's and an apple juice nearly £10 and only the apple juice was drunk!!

Understandable, paying for the convenience and extra with the corner shop, they can't match the bulk buying prices paid by the major supermarkets, but can Tesco justify the 22% increase in goods in their Express stores, stock is bought at their bulk price.Staff would obviously be paid the same , overheads less. So when it comes down to convenience, support your local corner shop.
