Swans v Notts Forest

Forest were not a poor team , they were very good , quick to loose balls , excellent movement and sharp accurate passing. Defensively sound and overan us in midfield.
We lacked speed, cohesion , passing , movement and confidence.
The only player who can hold his head up is Woodman who did not deserve to concede a goal .
Wilmott and Celina were woeful, Roberts wasn't much better and I can't find praise for anyone on the pitch except for the keeper.
Brizzle will tear us apart if we play like that up there !

We have the luxury of a good squad in depth, why put out those returned from international duty. Forest didn't play their Kosovo international, and he is a goalkeeper.
I couldn't decide whether our long passes were too heavy or the receivers too slow.
Forest showed how to break out swiftly, a lesson we must quickly learn.
I agree with @The Blobster , though it's a bit harsh to single out Wilmot, he didn't do anything wrong today!!

They had a couple of good counter-attacks, when they ripped our defence appart, and they had a good defensive organisation. But I wouldn't say they were very good. They were a better one of two poor sides.

You can't say they totally dominated and created chance after chance like Leeds did against us. If this was true, then I would agree that they were very good. But a team who sits back, has 36% possession and doesn't have a good passing accuracy, is not a very good team. We gifted them a goal, and other chances they created were more a result of our sloppy passing and poor defending. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think they are contenders for top six places. Of course, everything can happen in football, Leicester have won the Premier League title by defending and counter-attacking.

It seems everything we've attributed to them as a team was missing, or has it really ever been there? Good opposition still tear us apart.Once again a fatal backpass by Byers giving them the result along with shocking defending. Maybe we've been lulled into a false sense of security with our league position.I feel there's a lot of reality to come.
It will be all eyes on the Leeds result this afternoon, who should be expected to take the points from 21st place Barnsley.

Totally agree. Bidwell is too slow and can't run past opposition defenders. Ayew was doing everything he shouldn't be doing, at one point he was playing as a left-back . I don't understand that Ayew, who has skills, constantly passes the ball backwards and does not try to dribble, challenge opposition defenders, create something and shoot.
It's a pity Ayew wasn't in that left back position at the time of the goal, he would have stopped that wing run by fair means or foul.

If you can’t win make sure you don’t lose. Poor pass back by Byers in the Forest half to Grimes, ball intercepted by Grabban who races downfield . Grimes chases but for reasons unknown fails to make the tackle, defence all upfield and in disarray, Semedo slots home unmarked.

Some stats from that debacle:

POSSESSION: 63-37 SHOTS: 9-14 OT: 1-2 CORNERS: 5-4 FOULS: 7-17 GOALS: 0-1

Evident that Forest had far more shots despite having far less possession and both teams' accuracy was abysmal. But also note that Forest's foul count was far higher than ours showing they were prepared to put the boot in to get what they came for. It's a lesson we should learn and particularly Grimes who failed to take his man out for the goal.

I totally blame Cooper for fielding players who obviously had heavy legs after the international games. Celina, in particular, hardly had the energy to lift the ball over the first man from his set piece kicks and was lethargic about the pitch. Roberts too was lack-lustre and why the fcuk we have a decent squad but keep them on the bench when the situation is screaming for their use, is beyond me!! Naughton would have been a fresh player out to prove he should be starting instead of getting splinters in his arse.

Seems to me that Cooper well and truly showed his lack of league managerial experience here. He would rarely have had that sort of problem with an international team but he MUST realise that when you have 'tired' players you have to use your squad to compensate for it. Otherwise why the fcuk do have a squad? And I would certainly have used Peterson by the way, because he is never going to get up to speed sitting on his backside. Training is all very well but players need games to get better and we know he has talent otherwise why buy him?

But what I find hardest to take is what the Forest mananger had to say: "The manager Cooper is doing a great job, they deserved the first position. But we were more compact, more aggressive, more determined to take something."

More determined to take something??????????? FFS!!!!!!! Do you REALLY have to instill this attitude into a team that's topping the table and aiming for promotion? I never blame a player for lacking talent because he is what he is but I utterly condemn those who do have it but can't be bothered to apply it for every second of every game. Okay, anyone can have an off day but, that apart, with the wages and life style that the modern footballer enjoys today, there is no excuse for lack of effort. Cooper needs to take a long, hard look at his squad to see who's up for this battle because we don't want or need any faint-hearts. And, while he's at it, he really does need to start consulting more closely with the likes of Leon and Curt who are far more streetwise about the need for judicious squad rotation to keep things fresh. If he did consult with them over his team selection yesterday then quite frankly I think we've got cause for concern.

With yesterday's results all going for us, we wasted a golden opportunity to send a real statement to the rest of the division where we could have opened up a meaningful gap. But we didn't because a not particularly good team were 'more determined to take something'. CRIMINAL.

Up to this point Cooper was untouchable because of results. Not anymore. We are better than we played, we didn’t have the right team on the field for all the reasons stated above.

I like Dyer but he was the wrong player to have on the bench yesterday. We needed Garrick. We needed somebody with the pace, skills and desire to take defenders on instead of looking for the pass back. There are times when the pass back is the smart move and times when it is the lazy move or the move of players not thinking they can beat the opponent .... players that think they are beaten shouldn’t be on the field.

Possibly meant Bidwell? I tend to confuse the two names.
Indeed , I meant Bidwell , poor defensively , his passing was awful , either behind his target or giving away possession. I would much rather see Naughton play than Bidwell who's only saving grace is that he can occasionally put in a decent cross , which he failed to do yesterday !

Joe Rodon also needs to take on the responsibility of bringing the ball out of defence , time after time yesterday he had acres of space in front of him and instead of moving forward with the ball passed it square to VDH who's options were limited by a Forest team expecting this play.
We need more movement in midfield and passes need to be made quicker and with purpose .

I have been saying all along we should have lost most of our games so far, we have been lucky. We will finish about 10 th I think.

Teams have figured out that the high press is effective against the Swans. Toothless attacks and lack of communication with a lot of passes. Could not find our strikers in Ayew and Borja. Would have liked to come away with a point well earned or not. Forest is a good team and could have scored more like Leeds, that one off the cross bar 2 games in a row should have went in.

I would have started Byers over Celina as Celina played in 2 matches for Kosovo, 1 against England. Do you think 10th is on the floor? I believe the chances at a playoff spot are about the same as finishing 10th. Really need to find more pace, I'd love to see Kalulu get more time, Garrick too.

The only decent high cross Swans put in yesterday was Bidwell's cross to Ayew. Scroll to 2:21 in the video above to watch it. The only decent low cross was put in by Celina to Borja.

I don't know why Bidwell is heavily criticised for his passing against Forest when he was one of our best passers. Almost 90% passing accuracy is a damn good passing stats.

Routledge and Fulton were the players who gave the ball away most. Borja is a striker, and strikers usually don't have high numbers for passing accuracy.

He did have a rough game and you're right about Naughton. Dyer played a big part in the early success. If he's healthy he should be starting with Ayew and Celina. It's only Cooper's first loss at least.

That's interesting because watching the game it seemed like he was involved in a few poor plays.
