Swans v Hull city

Still plenty of games left to win the league. Our £50 million man Alfie Mawson lost 0-1 to newly promoted Barnsley.

Dyer is by far my player of the game
Absolutely! He's a different player under Cooper who has motivated him to become as good in tracking back and winning the ball as in going forward and either challenging inside or running to the line with a cross. Completely different player to James but he still made Kingsley's day a nightmare at full back. Peterson needs a lot more match time to get up-to-speed with the Championship. I was decidedly unimpressed with what I saw today as he mostly couldn't get past his man and gave the ball away more than once when we were trying to hold possession. The game was too fast for him. Time will tell, and same for Woodman who seemed pretty nervous. Borja was a pleasant surprise, although the team needs to adjust to him - he runs off the shoulder of the defence rather than coming back for the ball like McBurnie. Mike van der Hoorn seemed to understand that and dropped in a couple of lovely passes for him that didn't quite come off. All-in-all a satisfying start to the season with lots of room to improve. Derby away will be a sterner test next week.

Forgot all about Mawson ... who was he again. He was the center half that got us relegated ... he’s done that for two clubs on the trot now.

At half time I wrote this on Twitter:

Then we put two quality crosses in the beginning of the second half and scored two goals. :)

We played pretty well in the first half but the end product was almost zero mainly because we didn't commit bodies up front and because our crosses were poor. In the second half the quality of our football was poor. Too many sloppy passes. It was a huge mistake to have Celina on the left wing, his natural position is ATM. Borja is a bit slow, reminds me of Llorente, but I'm sure he can score plenty of goals at this level if he gets a proper service. Bidwell is slow too, but he is able to put some decent crosses into opposition box.

And the first thoughts on Woodman .... not a lot to do, but got beat on the first one, did a lot of flapping at crosses late in the game.

Yeah, he made that one save as the ball was going out to find Dyer, and get the first goal. Without that first goal they might not have had the momentum to score the second. I miss CCV a little but I think they'll be fine without him. VdH as always is a solid member of this team, very crucial on defense. I don't remember the last time he scored. There are some interchangeable parts on this team, Cooper could play around with the starting XI. It would be interesting to see Baker-Richardson up front in something like a 4-4-2.

At least he comes for the ball rather than staying rooted to his line.
Roberts was v poor in attack and defence.
Borja put in a huge shift with intelligent runs , needs Celina to Feed him , Celina wasted out wide.
Byers was not at the races , Fulton solid.Grimes again impressive , Dyer my man of the match but ran out of steam after 60 mins .

First game and 3 points gained , I'm hoping for a good season , the new players need to bed in quickly to increase our options.

As you say Blobby, the pieces of the jigsaw are there, just needs adjustments, pleased to see Borja beginning to prove why we bought him, Nathen ,what can you say about him? We used to say a team of Tate's. A team of Nathens energy and commitment would promote us.
Just the one doubtful area. The green jersey.

The keeper was ok. He did well at players feet, and came out to get/punch the ball. He did not stand on his line waiting for it to fly past him like Nordfeld.

Can someone explain Dyer's actions when he was subbed off?
He was in left wing position at the time and the ref suggested he depart to the nearest touchline. Nathan, however, began trudging all the way across the pitch. The ref, having no alternative, booked him. Nevertheless he continued to walk across the pitch!
I saw the ref's hand kind of wander towards his back pocket. I think the only thing that saved Dyer from a red card was the ref's uncertainty whether he could "send off" a player already substituted.

Perhaps Dyer was not aware in the moment of the new rule. Frankly, I’ve not seen a list of new rules and none of the commentators of recent matches have thought of pointing them out,

For a player sub’d to leave the field by the nearest touch line could pose a threat to the player walking around the field under some circumstances and since they are not going to don a different shirt or take one off for the walk around would pose a distraction to play,

The power of time is in the ref’s hand, if a player being sub’d dawdles off the field then just stop the clock. Are refs too stupid to do that. If a player leaving the field wants to acknowledge fan appreciation then what is wrong with that ... surely the powers that be must realize that this would be a positive. If that presents a delay .... stop the damn time tracker.

It’s a pointless rule, with pointless sanctions, that add no value.

Managers would argue that the 4th official has already added half a minute so if their player goes off any quicker you're giving time to the opposition. Unless you're chasing the game, of course.

@Behindthegoal ... McKay has shown well in preseason. There is going to be fierce competition for starts, as it should be. Yesterday Peterson looked a tad lost. Perhaps not surprising since he had only just arrived, but if I was McKay, I would be disappointed. Routs can provide a lot of value on the field. I am presuming that he wasn’t on the team sheet yesterday because he was not fit. It’s going to take until the end of the month to sort out the best .... shape, players, etc.

Celina on the left wing makes no sense to me .... as crazy as putting DeGuzman out wide by Monk. And, I don’t think the keeper situation is sorted, not at all.

That's a good point you make regarding a player having to leave the pitch at the closest exit, This division isn't unknown for it's coin throwing and abuse.

Add to that the challenge linesmen have calling offside without a player on the far side wearing active colors and you have a recipe for disaster.

I would expect an away club insisting on a team of stewards immediately form to escort an away player around the field to the tunnel.

I’ve just read through the IAFB site for new rules. Not well posted or easily accessed. Frankly, a group of people with little to do looking for busy work. I’ll try to post links in a separate article later today.
