As you may, or may not, be aware, a black man was shot several times in the back by a white police officer on Sunday ... Wisconsin Reels After Police Shooting and Second Night of Protests. An all too familiar happening in the USA, but this is one is particularly horrific.
There is video of the event in the article above. In short, for me, attempted murder in plain sight. The victim, miraculously still alive, is now in critical condition in hospital, potentially crippled for life.
Tonight, the NBA playoff matches are not taking place. The players have collectively decided not to play. They have communicated this to owners. Owners are in support. A strike in any other words; but not against ownership or industry. Instead a strike against a deficit in society and a too common deficit inside law enforcement ... those hired specifically to protect and serve delivering lethal force, violence and death to a specific segment of society.
Such an action by athletes is the first of its kind .... as far as I'm aware .... and NFL teams and teams in other sports are considering supporting action. Training sessions did not take place today, playoff game boycotts are not going to happen .... NFL Stars React To NBA Boycotting Playoff Games
Football players in the UK and elsewhere are now expressing support for the BLM movement. This is not going away anytime soon. Too often, before the virus we have seen racism manifest in football grounds against minority players. Scott Sinclair spent a number of seasons playing for Celtic ... but sadly suffered and struggled through racial abuse from his own supporters.
