Key Player
The challenge facing Stevie is that Grealish was Villa. Everything went through him, which is why they’ve been anaemic this season. What can he do with a squad that was carried somewhat by such a key player.
Possibly be their Laudrup and show them how to play, not just tell them?
I see the point you make but a quote from the horse's mouth, the 'horse' in question being Wayne Routledge, who originally made the observation about Laudrup showing rather than telling the lads about certain things in training. Granted you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear as the saying goes but it can't hurt to have a coach who can do all the necessary better than the people he's coaching. I can speak from personal experience - despite having 'retired', I continued to train with the team and Ivor showed me so many things that would have improved my game out of sight had I still been playing. So much so that I briefly considered putting the boots on again. Just wasn't fit enough though and my entire game was based on fitness. That's a myth.
