Sad to hear that Sam is retiring from rugby at just 29 years of age with immediate effect. He's suffered badly from injuries this past couple of years and now feels unable to recover from severe neck and shoulder problems.

He had a tremendous career and captained Cardiff Blues, Wales and the British and Irish Lions with distinction. Not only was he a world class flank forward, doing much of the unseen 'dirty' work, he was also highly popular and a great ambassador for Wales and any team he played for. Thanks, Sam, and well played!

Can’t argue with any of that - but look at him then look at his classmate Gareth Bale - strange game isn’t it where one much more dangerous sport’s players get paid so much less than a less physical game :unsure:
