Ryan Woods linked

We are being linked with Brentford’s central midfielder Ryan Woods. He’s 24 and has played 122 matches in the championship over the last 3 years. Sky claims we’ve had an initial offer turned down for him. I haven’t seen anything on reported fees.

This would be another strong signing.

Plays in central midfield but is versatile and can cover either FB position or right midfield. Said to have a lot of ability and known as the "Ginger Pirlo" when he was at Shrewsbury. Don't expect goals though: he's worse than Leon with just 4 in 223 appearances!! Was the 'Supporter's Player of the Season' last year. Brentford were a tidy footballing side, so he should fit in with Potts philosophy..... if we get him.

Sounds exactly what we need and if we signed him, I'd revise my opinion of a mid-table finish to that of us having a realistic tilt at the play off positions. We've got the money and we'll have a lot more by the time that Mawson and Ayew are sold, so let's not do a Joe Allen here and miss out on an exciting talent that seems to be exactly what the team needs.

Bring in some FB cover and maybe a centre back and we'll look pretty well set to have a decent season.

And a striker, please? Ghoddos has scored four goals in four games for Östersund since he came back from the World Cup, and £2m is not a big money.

Yes, I really rate Ghoddos' potential and feel he would be a good signing particularly as he and Potts have worked well together before. As you say, not much money but too much no doubt for the Idiot.

We had better sign this guy because otherwise we are going to be one shy of the 8 domestic players we need in the senior squad. By my reckoning we are currently at 7. This includes players like Clucas, Dyer and Routs. The departure of Mawson and Bartley buggered up the numbers. If Clucas leaves then we are still a player short.

Oh dear. Who have we that qualify, and what are the rules?
Sometimes the strangest folk qualify because they've been at an English academy?

Olsson, Roberts, Carroll, Fulton, Dyer, Routledge, McBurnie, Clucas, McKay. That's nine. Even if Clucas goes to Burnley we'll have eight. With Ryan Woods again nine.

My knowledge is obviously lacking here. Why can't we promote the likes of James, Byers, Rodon and Harries to the squad? They're on the cusp of it already by all accounts.

A homegrown player, as defined by the Premier League and EFL, is a player who: (a) is 21 or older on January 1 of the year in which that season begins and (b) spent 36 months between the ages of 16 and 21 with a team in the English league system.

Reading in the Sun that the Clucas deal has been put on hold because Dyche won't sign an injured player. This seems to be putting the Woods deal in jeopardy because we wanted to use the Clucas cash to buy him. Sun saying that we are now looking at Brighton's Ollie Norwood!! I'm bouncing! :mad:IF this is true, it means we'll miss out on one of the best midfielders in the division, one who might help propel us back to the PL.

What happened to the Mawson cash? Surely we're not going to do another Joe Allen here and lose the player over what amounts to peanuts? Clucas will be gone anyway in due course, so why can't the owners put in a modest amount of cash in the meantime to secure a damned good player. If they decide not to, it's stupidity personified and something we've got used to since the Unholy Trinity carved up our club.

The Sun also saying that Paul Clement wants Jay Fulton. He needs a big improvement on yesterday's performance otherwise I reckon they can have him.

Thanks for that. Does that mean that Dhanda, though English, doesn't qualify because he's under age?

Exactly. Every club can use max. 25 players who are over 21 and as many as they want under 21. Each one of our academy players who are under 21 can be called up by Potter during this season.
Out of 25 players who are over 21, 8 has to be homegrown.
