I will be sad to see him go. He deserves the same respect as Angel when he leaves...
Even Wales on line agree with me!

Yes, it's easy to forget the great contribution he's made to us over the years - and I've been as guilty of that as anyone. Had Borini not put a link to the article, I would have because he deserves it. It's not his fault that he's getting older and less effective: it happens to us all. Father Time respects no one and ultimately gathers us all into his net - if we're lucky enough to live that long!

Suffice to say that, wherever he ends up, I wish him every good fortune and success in the future with my thanks for some great memories. Good luck, Wayne, YJB!!!

This article is crap. Have people gone over the line with the treatment of Routledge sure but overall his career at Swansea wasn't that good. He wasn't a part of bringing Swansea through the divisions, he was only a part of the Premier league era. The article itself states he's been bad the last 3 years. So then you look at the other 4 seasons I'd say he's had two good seasons and then two average seasons. (And I think that's being kind) Not exactly as the article states
"When the day comes to bid farewell, Swansea fans should recognise Routledge’s years of great service and celebrate his fantastic achievements rather than spitefully deride him."
His biggest achievement is he was selected for a lot of games and as many Swansea fans have pointed out that shouldn't have been the case. That's why so many are happy to see him go he won't be selected seemingly every week undeservedly.

Seriously Angel brought Swansea through the divisions and was a good player for Swansea for at least 7 years. At best Routledge was a good player for 2 seasons.

Seems that Routs is something of a Marmite player, MI. I agree that he's far from the best we've had in recent years, even in his position, but I don't think he deserves the level of derision that he's received. On his day, he was a very good player: unfortunately those days became pretty rare in recent times. He peaked under Laudrup because he was getting proper coaching - something he's always acknowledged. But when Laudrup went, so did Routs' form and he never attained those standards again. But, whatever, I still wish him well.

Oh I wish him the best as well. I have no ill will towards him and you're right maybe if Laudrup had stayed I'd view his legacy differently. Yes, people have been harsh and anyone who wishes him ill is wrong. However I feel that looking at Routledge as a legacy player as ridiculous.

Key Player
He's 33 years old. He could have made an attempt to become a WB a few seasons ago but didn't. In fact, I think one manager or other played him there fairly recently. The quality in his technical performance declined remarkably over the last few years. His performance in the pre-season matches was anything but stellar. He should have been able to apply his talent and experience to more effect but he really didn't.

He was always a one footed player, playing on the wrong wing. He's the only "left" winger I have ever seen try to cross the ball with the outside of his right foot rather use his left ... what sort of a professional at the elite level is that limited.
