In fairness, BTG asked me to put it in a charity box which I shall do. The pound coin that is, not the tobacco.
Okay, you lot. A farmer sends his son to the livestock sales with specific instructions, which are:
On sale are sheep, chickens and cows and he must buy at least one of all three.
He has to purchase exactly 100 creatures and spend exactly £100.00.
Chickens are 5 pence each; sheep £1.00 each and cows £5.00 each.
How many of each must he buy to comply with his father's instructions?
I promise this is not a trick question. Years ago my staff and I used to set each other problems in the car whilst we drove long distances to do our valuations. This one had to be solved mentally with no calculators etc. but you can if you want.
PS: I met @Ladygargar and her mum for coffee today and posed the 22p problem to her. She answered correctly in two minutes flat. Smarty knickers!!
