Looks like Cardiff are socking it to West Wales yet again this time in the form of rugby union. They claim that the game in its present regional format is unsustainable in Wales. Currently there are 4 regions: Ospreys, Llanelli Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Newport Gwent Dragons. Initial thoughts were that the Ospreys would be disbanded and replaced by a new region in North Wales but this has now been disguised under the title of a "merger" between Scarlets and Ospreys with, seemingly, the Scarlets being the senior partner in the move.
What a farce!! The Ospreys is the only true regional rugby club in Wales, the most successful, and they are the ones to go to the wall!!! Newport Gwent Dragons have been a Cinderella outfit and utterly useless in recent years but are now untouchable because they were taken over by the WRU. Cardiff Blues are also untouchable because......... well they're a Cardiff based team; whilst, for some unfathomable reason, Llanelli Scarlets seem to be the darlings of the WRU.
I could write a book about the injustice of what's happening and give damned good reasons why it shouldn't. But it now looks as though Swansea is now going to lose it's regional identity in the form of the Ospreys and THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE SECOND CITY IN WALES. Why not merge CBs and NGDs?????? Neither team have achieved the success of the Ospreys and their game attendances aren't any better than the Ospreys. But no. We will never see that because Cardiff must be protected at all costs at the expense of the rest of Wales be it in sport, infrastructure or any other medium you care to mention. It sickens me.
