We are fckin terrible. We have been too slow with the ball from the first minute of the match. No speed, no energy, no quick transitions, no vertical passing through the middle. Defensively crap, and Moulder is just watching the balls going into the net. We are a different team with Fer on the pitch. Dyer disappointing, Celina disappointing, Roberts disappointing, Fulton disappointing, Naughton disappointing...

Conceding two goals against ten men when you are 2:1 up is fckin amateurish.

Great to equalise at the death but this was two points shamefully squandered against 10 men. Monk's cloggers got what they came for aided and abetted by a disgrace of a referee. Are any of them other than a disgrace in this league?

If we harbour any hopes of a top 6 finish Potter has to make his team more PROFESSIONAL! Some of the blunders his players make in games beggars belief at times.

CJ is absolutely correct with his comment. The points we continuously throw away with simple, basic mistakes, is just not good enough. Being outplayed by a better team is one thing but gifting points on a regular basis to inferior opposition IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We should be far higher in the table and the fact that we're not is down to our own stupid fault. Sort it quickly please, Mr Potter.

Mcshy came on ... Someone passed him the ball... He just watched as Birmingham took the ball off him... He DID NOT MOVE...
They scored.... He should be fined a months wage he is a cowardly disgrace. I cannot believe a game we led 1-0 and were so in control of was almost lost.
Why do we let players run 40 yds unchallenged???? . Potter was going to put Byers on then changed his mind for Mcshy
That decision cost us 2 points.

Mulder, above absolute all, cost us 2 points tonight. Our U18 keeper gets that win for us. Amateurish is a good word for this
Unfortunately I don’t think Nordfeldt would have handled that goal any better. Neither are much good with crosses into the box. They don’t dominate their 6 yard area never mind anywhere outside there. They are not UK developed keepers ... it’s not in their dna. They don’t seem willing to learn and adjust and acquire the skills to do that.

Video below if you can stand to watch our appalling defending. Their first goal was hit through Mulder after no less than FOUR of our so-called defenders failed to get in a tackle or a block on the striker. They were reversing quicker than a World War 2 Italian tank!! Their striker was doing what I've been screaming for our own strikers and midfield to do more often - drive hard and fast at the opposition, particularly in and around the penalty area. Some stats:

Possession: 74-26 Shots: 16-9 OT: 7-3 Corners: 12-4 Fouls: 15-15 GOALS: 3-3

Amazingly the foul count was even but I put this down to yet another clown of a referee who, imo, has no business being anywhere near a professional game of football. Even my radio commentator was moved to wonder how on earth this individual arrived at some of his decisions.

Respect?? My arse!!

As for the result, it shows that we have much to learn about how to manage a game. At times we are naive beyond belief and this is why I feel we need to sign a couple of hardened, experienced pros who can pass this on to the youngsters during the game.

PS to my post above. I've been critical but that's born out of disappointment at losing yet another two points to a team that we've outplayed. But there's very much that's good about us and it's great to see the progress that the youngsters, and the rest of the team, are making under Potter. For sure, there's far more good than bad about us and it's such a shame that our ship is being spoiled for a ha'porth of tar - in other words, do not spoil something for an avoidable reason. And I feel that many of the mistakes we've been making have been very much avoidable. But hopefully we are learning on the job and the basics are there for us to be a very good team at this level.

I respectfully but strongly disagree with that notion. Mulder was putrid in those first 2 goals, unacceptable. Nordfeldt would have certainly stopped 1 or likely both. I’m not saying Mulder hasn’t had his moments of brilliance and helped us earn points along the way, but yesterday he cost us 2 point above any other excuses. He needs to be sat down for a match.

The first goal was a cluster fuck for 3 to 4 defenders who backed off the Brum player and probably interfered with Mulder's view. Not to defend Mulder, because he should have blocked the shot especially from that angle.

The goal I was referring to was the cross beyond the far post that was headed down and then over a flapping Mulder. I don't see Nordfeldt as being any stronger in that regard.

With modern day keeping we are leaning towards keepers that are better with their feet than with their hands and their bodies and aren't much into body contact.

I remember being told a story by a team mate back in the Ponty days of a keeper called Lynn Davies - former Swansea reserve to Millington and Wales U-23 International. He could punt from one box to the other against the wind. The story goes ... a cross came over, Lynn went up and claimed the ball going through his CH in the process but was hammered by their CF on the way down. He ended up flat on his back out cold .... but the ball was still in his hands and hugged to his chest. They couldn't get the ball free until he came to. Good habits and excellent technique backed up by fortitude ... the traits of a solid keeper. Lynn could never be beaten from outside the box and most certainly would not have been beaten by either of those two goals yesterday.

I remember Lynn well. Did he have that big moustache when you knew him @Yankee_Jack ? :D And you told no lies about his kicking ability either. He had a kick like a mule and often booted it box to box as you said. Left footed if I remember correctly? But he was also a brave, old-fashioned type of keeper who took everything in what he regarded as HIS box. If I was back defending I made damned sure to keep out of his way!! Terrific stopper and a great character with it. :)
